Why? It's not like everyone spends their time touching bodily fluids all day. To me, everyone's making a big fuss over nothing.

It reminds me of H1N1, Bird Flu, Mad Cow Disease, and all those other "health" scares we had recently in the last 10 years.

Media plays it up to a point where we think it's worse then it actually is. Sure it's a deadly disease, but not so much to the point everyone is making it out to be.

But the chances of catching it outside of Africa is low and the only people who are sick are people who just came from there.

Exactly. The statistics showing the "deadliness" of Ebola include the statistics of the Africa's death rate, which is completely bias because Africa doesn't exactly have a prime healthcare center. Their sanitary conditions are horrendous, and to relate that to how deadly a disease would be for everyone else in the world is absurd.

One person died in America from Ebola. This guy came from Africa, so it's unknown how long he had the disease before he landed here. Secondly, the nurse who treated him also has Ebola now. She is an average american with good sanitary conditions. Let's see if she dies.

50%? I'd heard that it was closer to 85%, given that there was no cure or treatment for it.

Mad Cow (and other prion related diseases like Chronic Wasting Syndrome) is 100% fatal, the prions can't be cooked to death, and the food supply is still in limbo because the USDA has downsized a bit since 2000.

well h1h1 didn't kill many people but it was pretty damn infectious. I wonder how many people SARS would have killed, especially in China.

It's become airborne in the past with monkeys, so if it mutates enough it could become a serious problem. That is until a vaccine is produced and widely distributed.

You can talk about health care all you want but you need to be conscious of a few things. The first is that ebola is currently untreatable and has a ridiculously high death rate. This alone would seem bad enough, because if you did somehow manage to catch ebola while living in say, NA, you would still most likely die.

Then you have to factor in how it would hypothetically spread. Without travel restrictions, there could be ebola carriers arriving at numerous places around the world (still hypothetical here). If they are unaware of their virus, they could easily spread it to those around them, especially if they live with others or interact with others.

If people think the virus is just a flu or something of the sort, contact with bodily fluids is pretty much guaranteed. Then these people have no idea they too have ebola, and have potential of spreading it themselves. Combine this with the fact that with flu season coming up the hospitals could be rushed with false cases, leading to increased patient density, and you get an overall awful situation.

TLDR; You'll be fine. Unless you have ebola.

Would just like to add that Ebola has a reported incubation period of roughly two to twenty-one days.

It's not actually legit. There is no way that a human being with its organs turned to mush could function in any capacity, even as a 'zombie.' Take everything with a grain of salt. My first thought would be people whose bodies went comatose to combat the virus, giving the appearance of death.

That's the strain before this one and the strain before that one was 90% and the highest ones top 90% (a couple of past strains were 100% fatal).

"over nothing"
There is an almost guaranteed fatal virus out there that has already killed thousands of people that can be transmitted fairly easily.

This situation is not even close to "over nothing". It is a virus that has the potential to become as big as some of the biggest diseases in history.
