Hey all, I'm looking for a lighthearted fantasy adventure.

Lighthearted - Nothing dark or serious, and comedy is always nice.
Fantasy - Swords, magic, dragons, demons, the stuff you'd find in an RPG.
Adventure - Companions traveling the world together.

Likes:
- Action is a biiig plus, it keeps things exciting and adds conflict.
- A hint of romance, just the suggestion of a crush. Nothing extreme.
- Heroes aged 14 - 19. I believe it's called "Shounen"?

Disikes:
- Excessive fanservice/hentai: anything that makes the show awkward.
- Mechas: sword fights and magic fights are awesome. Robot fights... meh.
- Dark: Anything horror, too serious, or depressing gets a big minus.

Examples:
Night Wizard: the Animation and Rozen Maiden: Traumend were both excellent animes in my book. However their reccomendation pages were meh. So I came to the experts!

My Anime List
Pretty lacking, but here it is:

Well that's everything! I don't mean to be picky, just detailed! =P
Looking forward to your recommendations. =)

Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are both amazing. Good amount of action with some comedy thrown in there.

You should probably watch some Ghibli movies like Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc.

As for shows, I really don't watch very many lighthearted things. :( I can only think of adventure manga, orz. And even they wouldn't fall under the lighthearted side.

Maybe Elemental Gelade - but I haven't finished it yet so I can't say if it will stay on the happy side. Kekkaishi has plenty of action, falls on the lighthearted side of things, has a hint of romance, but isn't exactly an adventure. The protagonists protect a certain area of land so they aren't going anywhere. Samurai Champloo would be good but it's aimed at bit of an older audience and is lacking the fantasy element. Escaflowne has a bit too much romance...

Non-anime: Honestly, Avatar: The Last Airbender sounds like the perfect show for you to watch. *is shot by western animation haters*

Yeah I'm gonna second the studio Ghibli recommendation, start with Spirited Away.

Yeah, try Elemental Gelade and Samurai Champloo (although it's not fantasy - just adventure/action).
And of course the Ghibli Movies - as fantasy and adventurous as you can get.

Though Escaflowne is a great fantasy adventure, it does have mecha, though it's kind of mecha fused with magic in a way.

I'll also recommend Seirei no Moribito and Juuni Kokuki. I haven't seen either of them, however both are meant to be fantastic fantasy adventures with excellent action. By the way, if you do decide to watch Juuni Kokuki, stick with it, since I've heard the first 10 episodes or something aren't very good, however after that it takes a dramatic turn from bad to good.

Wow, thanks everyone for the responses!

I watched the first three episodes of Samurai Champloo, and am so far really liking it, despite it not being a fantasy! It has the right mix of adventure, comedy, and action to keep me watching. =)

I also looked into Elemental Gelade, and it looks pretty dang good.

I'm definitely going to check every show you recommend, so keep them coming!!
I'll post more thoughts once I watch more episodes! =P

I have a feeling you might really like Shakugan no Shana.

First season was excellent, second season was great and there coming out with a third season later this year i think.
I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. It's the honest ones you have to watch out for. Honestly.

Hunter X Hunter is AMAZING. However, the first 2-3 episodes are quite boring lol.

A young boy sets off to on an adventure to become a hunter (sort of a status with various privileges) in an attempt to find his father that left him when he was really small. Travels with a group of people he meets along the way. Lots of action, and an arc of the story (the OVAs) is actually set inside of a 'game' (rpg).

Hmm the currently airing Tears to Tiara is not bad, though there's a bit of fanservice and harem.

D.Gray-man? It's long and a few fillers here and there (not all of them bad, though), but I love it. The first episode isn't so great, in my humble opinion, so bear with it until at least episode 2 or 3 and see how you like it.

I'm currently watching Nabari no Ou and it's good so far - modern-day ninjas, yay? Not much magic, though, unless you call ninjutsu magic.

I must also agree with Escaflowne - some mecha but not like what you see in the Gundam series.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle - lots of good fantasy, action, and a dash of Syaoran x Sakura romance.

Status Report:

Watched the first episode of Escaflowne. The fantasy and action were both pretty good, though the romance was... rather nauseating. =P
I also find the characters to be pretty bland... but I know better than to judge after one episode, so I'll watch more.

Tears to Tiara has an awesome OP, so that's probably next on the list!
Kekkaishi, Elemental Gelade, and Shakugan no Shana look great too!!

Keep them coming, these recommendations are great! =)

D.Gray-Man - they do have fillers but very few of them.
Katekyo Hitman Reborn! is a really nice one.
and if you really like comedy, you should really try out gintama, one of the most funniest anime i've ever seen. they do have action arcs as well.

I'd also recommend Gintama. Though it's not really an adventure, more like a parody. They only have very short arcs, so there's no real plot. But it's a great lighthearted comedy anime with some "samurai" action.

Others, that were already mentioned:
- Samurai Champloo
- maybe One Piece or Hunter x Hunter ?

/edit: If it doesn't have to be anime, definitely try Avatar: The Last Airbender.
