The population is growing. In order to have meat, we need animals. In order to have animals, we need a place for them to stay. here in Brazil, the main reason for cutting trees is to create places for animals to stay and make meat. But, in the future, we are going to count with more than 10 billions of people. There won't be space for both humans and animals. Meat is either going to become luxury, or we are going to have to stop eating it, or maybe we are going to have to cut all the trees we have left, which would bring consequences to the temperature. What do you people think about that? Are we going to have to stop eating meat in the future? |

From NatGeo: Deforestation said: Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are related to money or to people’s need to provide for their families. The biggest driver of deforestation is agriculture. Farmers cut forests to provide more room for planting crops or grazing livestock. Often many small farmers will each clear a few acres to feed their families by cutting down trees and burning them in a process known as “slash and burn” agriculture. And from ScienceDaily: Agriculture is the direct driver for worldwide deforestation said: Agriculture is estimated to be the direct driver for around 80% of deforestation worldwide. In Latin America, commercial agriculture is the main direct driver, responsible for 2/3 of all cut forests, while in Africa and tropical Asia commercial agriculture and subsistence agriculture both account for one third of deforestation. |

There was a recent science news that made the headlines where they developed something like meat using molecular biology techniques. AKA cloning cells from cows and making a beef-like patty afterwards. I imagine they can go on mass-production soon. |

i usually avoid meat because yeah, i'd rather not be eating the flesh of a formerly conscious creature all the time. although i still did on christmas and thanksgiving. i dont think its too horrible to eat meat but i also like the pure feeling i get from being vegetarian so yeah i stick with it. i rely on veggie burgers hardcore tho lol |

The only reasonable argument for not eating meat is if you're allergic. As humans we require meat, as our bodies need the essentials that come from meat. There's no replacement, even if you're a vegetarian/vegan (the stuff in those supplements come from somewhere). |

Current epidemiological data support the need for animal-derived nutrients to provide optimal brain health, in particular. For example, B12 and long-chain omega-3 fatty acids essential for the development of a healthy brain are concentrated only in animal products. Excluding animal products from your diet, on the other hand, carries significant risk. A recent survey of 689 men found 52 percent of the 122 vegans were vitamin B12 deficient, which leads to fatigue, depression, decreased cognition, and irreversible nerve damage. As we age, low B12 levels are associated with shrinkage in brain regions related to memory and moods." http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-farmacy/201205/do-happy-healthy-brains-need-meat http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/should-humans-eat-meat-excerpt/ |

This is my silly view on the subject of meat though, at some point they will figure out how to clone animals at a reasonable rate. It will still probably be a little rare, depending where you live but I don't foresee people relying on natural born animals forever. Science will find a way to make it easier, or people will start eating other people. In a meatless future, I truly believe that meat extremists would simply start kidnapping random people to consume them in order to taste meat again. |
