A very serious romance anime where there is a couple early on.

I'm looking for an anime where the main couple gets together at the very start of the series, and then grows as a couple. I want this to be a very serious anime such as the manga mars is.

I'm not looking for any comedy, especially slapstick. I also don't want it to be ecchi UNLESS it is for a good reason, such as moving the plot forwards. Would also be a plus if one or both of the main characters are mentally scarred or have a mental condition.

Sorry that this is such an exact question.

i think theres pretty few that the couple STARTS together

onegai sensei is really good
also itazura no kiss they get married half way through and it shows a lot post couple
if you havent seen clannad then the 2nd season they are a 'couple'

Paradise Kiss... if you are expecting a romance with a happy ending then I wouldn't watch this one. Other than that this fits what you're looking for!!

I don't mind if it take a little while for the couple to get together but it has to be well before the half way mark. Also I'm cool with both happy and sad endings, dosent bother me.

Also, frostedmanti, I think it's extremely rare to have any non-comedy anime where the MCs get together at the beginning. Hope you don't put too much expectation on serious romance anime things in such case :D
