| So I've been playing osu! for a month now and I have to say that I've been kinda good. But it bugs me on how I can't seem to finish Hard and Insane modes. Does it take long to know how play Hard or Insane? Or do you need a penpad (Those tablets with pens) to play Hard or Insane? Some youtube videos I see that play Hard or Insane use those penpads. If so, how much is it? |

| No tablet or any other peripheral is necessary. Thousands of people play through Hard and Insane maps just fine using only a mouse or the addition of a keyboard. It can take anywhere up to three months to learn how to properly play Hard beatmaps, depending on your personal skill level and previous experience with rhythm games. It personally took me about two months of moderate playing time before I could tackle most Hard beatmaps. However, it took my musician friend a little under a month to do the same. The difficulties are really loosely worded. "Hard" can range anywhere between a 4.00 and 4.85 difficulty and "Insane" can also range anything from 4.80 to 5.00+. I'd suggest looking at the actual difficulty numbers on the beatmap's page than attempting it based off the name of the difficulty. Even then, two beatmaps with the same difficulty rating can be entirely different because of the complexity of patterns, timings, jumps, rhythm on the song, and many other things.
