Would you be OK with people calling you senpai IRL, it's used in anime quite a bit usually when a female shows some affection towards a male, I know that it's not meant to be used that way, but that's how I've seen it used out of the recent anime I've sen. 1. Would it be fine to use it in Japan? 2. Would it be weird to use it anywhere else? 3. Would you hate it if a girl said it to you, or would you like it? (Answer this one if you're male) |
| Use it outside of Japan, you'll be getting people calling you a weeaboo. It would be awkward and I would tell her not to call me that, the same way I told one of my male friends to stop saying "You baka" instead of "You idiot" or "dumbass". |

| One of my friends always used to try to make me say it to her. Never happened. But to answer your questions. 1. Only in the schooling system. 2. Yeah, probably. 3. No. I had one of my female friends call me "senpai" because I was one year older than her. Needless to say, she said it in an adorable way. So, I wouldn't hate it. |

| Yes, it'd be weird to use it anywhere else unless Japanese IS your only language. (If you're a Japanese that just moved to the USA or something.) It'd be ok if the girl is Japanese, but I won't like it if it's not Japanese because she'd be like a weeaboo. |

| Inside Japan, I'd say it's fine. Outside? Well you better make sure people understand the meaning of it first. Personally, if some younger girl started calling me that (which I have a very hard time picturing) I think it'd make me very happy in theory, but I don't think I could ever believe she'd be serious. Not to mention everyone else would look at you very strangely. It'd probably only cause problems in the end. |

It's unlikely that I'll ever be in a situation where "senpai" would sound natural, so it doesn't really matter. |
