She's the same Misaka as ever, the only thing different is were seeing her be a little more comfortable with her friends (now that she's known them a long time, given if you think about it she barely just met Kuroko and them in the beginning of season 1). She IS shown being this way in season 1 as well, just not as often. It's not out of character or changed at all.

I really welcome it, it's giving her entire personality and character an extra boost from just being "The Railgun" into ALSO being "Mikoto Misaka, a regular 14 year old girl". It's sweet and adorable and entirely who she's always been, it's just getting some more spotlight. Not to mention aside cute, it's actually relevant with the more serious story we're getting this time around, as it'll help showcase the situation better when it shows up while keeping the fact she's just a little girl going through all this in your mind.

Again, it's nothing "different" it's just that it was shown a lot in one episode, while in season 1 it was spread out more.

Yes, it was a beautiful scene, the whole episode was really nice too. Seeing her all upset and whiny at the start of that episode was adorable, plus how flustered and nervous she was about doing the performance, it all goes back to the whole "she's always been this way" point as well.

It was my favorite episode in the series. It was showing that Misaka in daily live is still normal girl as she is in battle.

By the way, she's a middle school girl, not a highschool one!

It's one of my top favorites as well, it doesn't just showcase her being just normal day to day life, but also gives some good time on the other characters in the same way. It was really well done on JC Staff's part. Even Kongou and Konori got to have a little time of just being themselves in it.

Plus, we got to see biribiri in such a pretty dress.

The short apearance of Touma and Misaka playing real force using violin while wearing pretty dress is perfect.

I don't see how she's any different from back in season 1 or in Index.

She's still just as childish and carefree. If anything, Sisters Arc is about Misaka being badass.

Yeah Misaka is badass. They are showing her happy now to make a contrast later when she goes all
. Those scenes were some of the most emotional things I had ever read in any manga. Hopefully, the animated version is even better because the manga was spectacular, both arcs were. The Sister's arc and the arc with Misaki.

no. her voice just seems a little higher but you can't blame her. it's been years and she's just finished her role as Haruka in Tadaima. it's ep 1. give it a while

She is harsher in manga . She shout "I can blow your head" to misaki, on front of people, in library.

Yeah, I was kind of disappointed about that actually... I think they are going to tone down what happens to her in this anime...

It's jarring watching Misaka scared in that scene. Well, As long as 9982's fate & Misaka mind break animated faithfully, i'm okay.

I also dont really notice a difference. She was still shows as being a badass by the end anyway.
And even if she is more laid back and "girly" I think it works as a great contrast as for whats going to happen this season.

She's becoming like that more as time passes by. At first she was very harsh with Kuruko and a little with the others, not so much now.

no I just wanted to say the same thing.

And seeing how light-hearted they made this show for the most part, that will definitely get toned down a lot. Better to lower my expectations right now rather than be disappointed later on.

I just clicked the first link that gave the chapter.I read everything except the "Big 3" in my pc.

I missed you inb4s XD
Anime only viewers are quite blinded by the cutie look of the Raligun anime(add most part of Index too) and fail to realize that Academy City is one of the most dangerous places to live.I used to think it was safer than other anime worlds before reading the LN/manga.The anime makes it look like the bad guys and bad experiments are rare in the city.

The LN has been going nonstop will all the "darkness" and "dark side" of AC that it's really going to sink in that it's a dangerous city. Sadly, the Index anime doesn't quite depict that, or at least got to the parts that really emphasize it.
Well, it's probably because the only ones where that side of AC is mentioned/shown are the parts where Accelerator, and Hamazura, is concerned.
Touma has been mostly handling the magic side mixing in to ruin the science side. I don't think he's been shown that side at all, except for the Sisters arc and

Which is why I really think people will flip and complain over the tone change of Sisters arc, if JC decides to adapt it properly. Here's hoping it's decent.

The railgun manga already shows how the darkness exists... You saw the first episode of Railgun S (it was already slightly dark and people liked it in general). Index III will be doing that anyway, right? We will be seeing:
as well as many other things. This gives a much clearer idea of AC anyway. I mean with episodes 22, 23, and 24 of the first season, it's not like Misaka can just ignore that happened. The point is that the ending of the first season had some pretty dark parts and things said about the espers in the city. Misaka just shrugged it off. I mean this was already revealed last season and people generally think that this part of the season was the grandest part of the first season. I don't see why an even more spectacular reveal in the second season wouldn't have the same or an ever grander effect. This is just continuing what was happening in the first season.

When Misaka fought Kiyama she learned about the experiments done on the children by Gensei,
This was already dark and something very different from normal. We saw students using level upper, Saten going into a coma, Konori having trouble with Big Spider, the whole poltergiest incident ordeal, and the fact that Anti-skill wouldn't come to help Kiyama until the very end of season 1. Season 2 started like two days after season 1, right?, even though it doesn't feel like it in the anime... the graviton incidents and the bullying going on. Misaka came out of that incident pretty much pretending nothing had happened.

It is only natural for the second season to really make her question about how corrupt the city really is. I think it helps to develop her character and with effective filler can be used to created powerful character development between the four main character girls of Railgun.

Edit: @Belatkuro

I didn't see you were trying to have lowered expectations. That's a good policy lol.

Well, it is academy city after all. A city occupied by 2,3 million students. Nothing happen here is a surprise

After madoka, maybe railgun's popularity will explode if it show high dose of darkness
