I'm looking myself. So far, I haven't found anything better personally.

However, it depends on WHY you like Code Geass.

If you are decently comfortable with mecha:
Gundam Wing comes to mind, due to the similar geopolitical power-shifts, mecha battles, opposing philosophical viewpoints, protagonist is an anti-hero, etc. but that's from like 13 years ago.

Code Geass has too many things for everyone to ask for a blanket "what's better?" statement.

If you like it for action, there are many anime's with better action out there. If you like it for visuals, some have topped it. Gurren Lagann might be your thing.

Personally I disliked fanservice-fest ridiculously-over-the-top Gurren, for being the very opposite of the reasons I liked Geass which follow:

If you like Geass for the intelligent geopolitical chess game tied together with intense emotional repercussions for the hero, warfare, inner-family monarchical divisions, multiple coup d'etat then tough luck: For there is no greater than Geass.

I'd been looking for something like that for a while, Geass answered my prayers. The best other political chessplayers in anime's I can think of are Gundam Wing's Treize, and Mustang in Full Metal Alchemist. Maybe Utawarerumono also, since it has a few coup d'etat, and elements of harem like Geass.

But neither one has the roller coaster of Geass. The characters are mostly static, with only a few being dynamic (and only changing once) unlike Geass, where MOST are dynamic, and many change multiple times, such as Lelouche, Shirley, Suzaku, etc.

P.S. Geass will come back. In either a season 3, or alternate universe. Just re-watch the ending of 25 again and remember C.C. and the emperor both had a code (whichever he could of gotten it from).

So please tell us WHY you like Geass, then we can help you better!

the first that comes to my mind is Death Note
I personally find them very similar except that:

Death Note starts pretty well but as the series continues it starts getting boring and it seems the story is going nowhere ... on top of that the end is pathetic

but the first episodes are very good and I would say they have the same feel as Code Geass

I know nobody would probably see this, I came up on this thread a LOOONG time ago after I finished Code Geass, I just rewatched it today.

Still I want people... who are searching to understand what is it really they're trying to find in other anime.... unfortunately I haven't found another Anime like Code Geass.... sure certain things like "plot" or "epicness" Id have to give that to Gurren Lagann and Death Note.... but come on. For instance Death Note and Code Geass, aside from what woukld be called "Psychological Warfare" is nothing a like... I get the feel that whenever I watch Death Note.... no I mean I see.... You NEVER see a colorful scene in Death Note.... I guess they wanted to accentuate the theme? Dark... Black-Humor... and mature.. Code Geass Has the former, but not the later, it's actually colorful, dark at times, but not that dark it's fun to watch... I just wish they'd have more battle scenes in though. As for Gurren Lagann..... Yes Throwing Galaxies as deadly disc of doom to fight the final Boss was epic... Actually I have nothing to pout about when comparing Gurren Lagann to Code Geass.... it was a good anime. Actually It'd be fine if they made a sequel too.

I just want to say that I like EVERYTHING in Code Geass/R2

The casual everyday school life and the fact that there's another side to it, I.E Lelouch going Zero and waging war on Britannia, the humor, the action, yes the Mechs and effects are really cool to watch. I also liked the plot, but saying just "plot" won't get you anywhere when you try to compare it to another anime. I don't think there's any anime like Code Geass, Code Geass has a lot of theme, the genre is also varied, I haven't seen any other anime as diverse fun, full of action, interesting plot/twist/etc.

you may like Rainbow, its not the same as death note or code geass in any way. So there's also no awesome psycho warfare. but trust me, you'll find it really good.

Seconding Legend of Galactic Heroes, apparently supposed to be better than geass, or so people say. Will get on it after finishing my action series, too much comedy can be a bad thing.. (Damn you Lovely Complex!) Also Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, just a series oozing in epicness, absolute Must Watch. Black Lagoon as well, Darker than Black, Durarara, all awesome must watch series.

he was about 2 or more steps ahead from his enemies or opponettttts XD
well thats what i think
you can say he just matched his chess skills to his strategy
but the soldiers in his game wasnt just a chess shapes or soldiers there were people, with mind and soul.
well kinda troubled with my english but hope youve got my point here. O_O :)

i havent read the answer in the posts, so here it is:

Neon Genesis Evangelion
I`d say its quite even to the brilliancy of code geass, though the characters are more interessting in cg.

But, nge has it all:
an epic sophisticated story, lot of action, an ending to remember (at least the movie ending :)), ...

And, if u dont like old anime, there is a remake of the series in movies, some are already on the market. - though, i liked the original one better

Because we did not have enough "anime similar to code geass / death note" threads, we had to necro some from the olden days to make the quota. grmf.
