Just something I've been wondering. I read somewhere that Kirito was 14 when he started the game, and Asuna was 15... have they aged since then? I'm thinking they had to, since chapter 16.5 and all.

Their bodies in the real world aged 2 years. I don't know if the body in Aincrad also aged...

Didn't it only scan them once before they started the game, and they are probably being fed through tubes so they should be skinny in real life by now.

they aged real life but not in game, remember when they first started nerve gear they said that they had to touch themselves all over for the nerve gear to calibrate, which is how the mirror was able to copy how they looked in real life in SAO, but since they havent been able to move in 2 years they haven't been able to calibrate the nerve gear again so they look the same ingame as when they first started

its as jinui said, they don't age

however ive noticed that kirito's hair getting slightly longer as time goes by, whether this is a clever part of the system in SAO or not is unknown though

in the LN it says that the only thing you can customize is your hair. (in ep 7 the picture that Lizbeth looks at im pretty sure the girl in the picture is her with brown hair)

I'm curious to see them in the coma state. if they age then i'm sure they feel it mentally..

Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.

And when they age in the real world, does the Nervegear update their bodies in the virtual world?
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

I don't think so since they only scanned them once before they started the game, and they wouldn't know exactly how people age.

That's the point of this thread.

It wasn't mentioned in the LN...so we can't really tell...
Like Kamikaze said, we don't know if the SAO system is advanced to the lvl of being able to predict your body figure when you age...

It most likely does not. While it COULD scan the face it would not be able to update the body height and what-not. Before they entered the game they had to do a "pre-test" where they moved in different ways with their body which then the Nervegear interpreted their actual body measurements from the data collected.

Since obviously they can not do that "pre-test" with their real bodies immobile they most likely just keep the same face and body in-game until they beat the game.
Touch me, you filthy casual~

yea there was also diabel, the blue haired one i think, but it only applied to the hair colour and changing your hairstyle, there was nothing about cutting your hair or your hair growing, if people cut their hair wouldn't it be permanent without it growing back

Only remotely related to this thread, but since I'm basically only looking for a spoiler-free yes-no-answer ... well, making a new one seems pointless.

The question, which came to me out of pure curiosity would be: Does the light novel at some point explain how their real world bodies are sustained? (Since I consider reading the LN, too, a yes/no answer would be great ... considering how many singles live in this world and what the main playerbase for certain MMOs is the death toll should be significantly higher than 2000 in one month if there were no concept beyond "family members noticing the condition and taking initiative".)

Yes but, to be more specific it scanned their face when configuring the nerve gear

Well then what about their height. I just watched the first episode again and they talked about how they scanned their face so it knows what their face looks like, and they had to calibrate the nerve gear by touching all over their bodies.

I'm not sure... but I think they entered/typed their height and weight...

They had to touch themselves all over to calibrate the nerve gear allowing the nerve gear to gather data on their height/bodyshape etc

It's complicated getting the height with only touching your body with the scanner...
And I somehow remember something mentioned in the LN...

Oh here it is
