Spoiler alert. This only contains spoilers for Hanako and Emi route but they are extreme and give away the endings for both.

Ok so I have just finished the Hanako route after I heard everyone saying how amazing it was, and don't get me wrong I thought it was very good, but I felt myself feeling more emotional when it came to Emi's route, to the extent where I actually felt quite depressed when I finished it lol. Did I miss something with Hanako's route? Here is my interpretation: Hanako is depressed and has a lot of anxiety issues due to the fact that she had spent a long time being bullied due to her scaring, and she has had her life on hold since the fire, so she has trouble moving on and so never trusts people, she meets Hisao who very slowly gets her to come out of her shell, he is very protective but feels useless compared to Lilly who is like a mother to her, Hanako's birthday coming up, she has a major panic attack at the mention, as she feels like she was the cause of her mothers death and nothing but a hindrance to everyone else and so in turn curses her existence. Hisao comforts her getting closer yet at the same time growing apart, she explains her story over a game of pool, Hisao decides he wants to protect her, but she doesn't want protecting, she doesn't want to be a burden to everyone yet that's the only way people treat her, so she sleeps with Hisao so that he will view her differently, because the has spent her whole life being a hindrance to people, she thought she was something useless that was being protected her entire life even her mother gave up her life to protect her. She doesn't know what to do to get him to change his view so she does that, Hisao confesses, she kisses him in public almost to symbolise that she doesn't care what people think anymore.

I know this was quite a brief summary but this is mainly what I got from it. Am I missing something? I feel quite emotionally distant from the story, and I definitely don't feel as strongly as I did with the Emi route. The whole thing where she never let anyone in, she nearly breaks up with Hisao because of this but he keeps pushing until she lets him in. I enjoyed it very much and it made me cry at the end, could it be that my expectations for Hanako's route were too high due to what people said or am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance

(ah sorry about the long post...and if you could recommend which character I should do next I would greatly appreciate it, I have only done Emi and Hanako)

I have no idea who you're talking about but I choose the burned girl route and didn't feel that connected either.

That male character has nothing to do with westerners.

Ok so this is my new analysis.

Hanako had spent her life not wanting to talk to people, thinking she was a burden and just generally hating herself, but when Hisao came, and pushed his way into life it changed how outlook, she decided she wanted to be normal. She had been stuck in a rut, and her life had stopped since the accident until Hisao comes and digs her out. The birthday scene symbolizes how hurt and scared she was, but when Hisao comes and they play a game of chess, it sort of shows this how the had gone back but the game was a way of Hisao treating her like a normal person. The sex scene was very dark, as she was only doing it so that she could finally be seen by others as not just a frail child who needed to be looked after, while this was effective it was quite disturbing. It makes Hisao realize this, and Hanako explains that she didn't just want to be a useless burden to Him, she was scared he would leave he then tells her he loves her, which makes her very happy as she is finally starting to move on. Am I right here?

It was pretty straightforward so I don't think it needs much in way of analysis, but yea, that sounds about right.

Yeah seems accurate, I don't remember her exact feelings but the birthdays were counter-productive and made her feel worse while the more-or-less serious approach to chess taken by Hisao made something click in her head, and the sex scene is as you say.

If I wanted to play again I would go with Rin or maybe Emi the student council seems boring to me.
