I don't know if you guys noticed, but after watching episode 4 and 7, I noticed that all Undines' names starts with the letter A. It's obviously intentional, but why A? lol

It's because the letter "A" holds special meaning in Ancient Japanese social tradition. It began in the Anwa era when a boy by the name of Atsuhito was fishing for Arapaima and he was Attacked by an Angry Anteater. ...Okay, I'm making this up.

Now that you mentioned it... Yeah, you're right. That's definitely not a coincident

Simple answer: that's what the auther wanted to do. The series has already been criticized on this very aspect - it's said to be confusing. I kind of have to wonder how those critics responded to Shuffle! though, which had two Rins and a Rim :p
I haven't heard anything about any official response to the criticism, so the only possible connection I can draw ATM is to the author herself (point: Koizumi Amano).
But, in the end, the basic premise for it is rather common. Many authors name their characters based on an established convention for various reasons (enhance thematic elements, generate humor, cultural reference, just for fun, to make it easier to choose names, etc).

Some major examples just off the top of my head:
Most of the characters in Blue Seed are named after plants
Most of the ones in Scrapped Princess are military equipment manufacturers
In Demonbane, it's all Cthulu Mythos characters/places, or ancient Roman emperors (the latter for villians).

what?! even i didnt find it confusing at all! i noticed them all beginning with As too, and i thought it was just another aspect of aria which made it unique and interesting. and its probably A cos its Aria in Aqau etc. ah the beginning of new things

This may sound stupid, but I didn't actually notice.
It's not like it's a very important aspect of the story.

Yeah, it's what the author wanted to do, I guess. Lots of series do this.Aside from the ones ErwinJA mentioned, some more:

NG Knight Lamune & 40 has characters named after drinks, Ranma has characters named after hair-care products, almost everyone in Magic Knight Rayearth are named after cars ("Geo Metro" lol), in Bastard!! everything is named after rock bands ("Bon Jovina", hahaha), etc.

All of the main characters in one of my novels have 6 letter (romanised) names. Though half of them are shortened (Ryouki = Ryou, Chiaki = Chi-chan, Misaki = Saki, Kanako = Kana) for regular use. But I went out of my way to name everybody with 6 letters ^^;

I think that the author wanted to pull people in. I didn't even notice until I saw this topic. The magnificent characters were so diverse that you will never mix up their names. Their personalities is what made the anime so special. They each explore new aspects of Neo-Venzia; each one sees something different even when looking at the same thing. Does it really matter if their names all start with A? It really doesn't because if you've watched this anime, you will know who is who just because their personalities are so original.

Was my reaction somewhere along Aria the Natural.

Oh well, it caused few mix ups with names but in the end it's pretty cool.
