Claymation is animation that is not an animated cartoon. Computer animated graphics are not animated cartoons. The "animated cartoon" part of the definition in the dictionary is well just a part of the definition and THE definition of animation. |

Because that would ignore the reason the terms exist, to not only separate them from each other but to separate hand-drawn works from things like claymation, stop motion, and the current CGI animation. The only thing separating them to you might be "style" but style differences would include character designs, animation techniques, storytelling, and pacing. |
