Berserk (better to read the manga, but the anime is good too, despite its ugliness)

Katanagatari (didn't like it much myself, but everyone else seems to love it)

Gintama (Comedy mix of Edo Period & Science Fiction, very funny and has alot of similarity to Kenshin (in it's lighter moments at least)

Seirei no Moribito (not as action packed but similar classical setting)

Sword of the Stranger (Best Anime sword fights....EVER, Sengoku period)

Will probably look into sword of the stranger, that one looks most interesting..
