----------------------------------------
Hy and Rhodan's argument about the bombardment is fairly interesting as it's a direct clash of different, incompatible ethics.

Hy's ethic is one of honor which is concerned with individual conduct and achievement which is why he's so insistent on being the one to defeat Galient to the point where he seems ironically selfish despite his willing subordination to Marder. He's like a samurai or knight.

Rhodan, on the other hand, is more like a modern soldier. He's organized and goal-oriented; the defeat of Galient, however it happens, is all that matters and he finds Hy's dogged interest in his honor to be infuriating since it interferes with a chance to win.

Hy sees fighting as what it would mean in terms of honor and Rhodan sees it as a task to be carried out in an effective way.

Given that the premise of this series is science-fiction technology being introduced to a pre-industrial world, this clash of radically different war ethics should be very pertinent. Just to throw out an idea, what if Hy was part of a pre-existing warrior aristocracy and Rhodan was a common man who learned the new warfare without any preconceptions?

It's these cultural issues that gives this series the potential that drew me to it in the first place. Unfortunately, it's putting pretty much no effort into it and it's coming off as a rather generic mecha series. I want to a world reeling with wonderful and terrible possibilities that it never dreamed of but all I'm getting is bland, samey action.
