Love the anime and went to the Kasumi/Kami. Very cute little town. I got sick of the temples and crowds in Kyoto. I must say that the little shrine in Kasumi was great though.

I miss that town...There were little kids running around screaming "gaikokujin, gaikokuji!" So I started speaking in russian to them.....they were like ....WTF??????
Fun times.
Anyone who is ever around the Kyoto area definately has to take a day trip there. On the way back though, just continue on to Tottori (great sand dunes there). It's only an hour tops away from Kasumi.

How do you get to Kami (or is it Kasumi) from Kyoto and how long is the traveltime?

Not sure about from Kyoto, I went from Osaka. Basically you have to get on san'nin (i think) line and take that all the way toward totttori. It should be on the way.
