Unless the last episode really has some sort of twist that makes this whole Elie/Marriage business important to the story I really don't understand why the the series spent so much time on it. Especially the side stories with other characters, was there any point to any of that? I mean we spent two episodes on that couple on the train and it didn't even have a happy end, what was that? It's like they really wanted to make a point, but forget what the point was supposed to be.

To be fair, I don't hate this series and it definitely had it's high points, but the wasted potential is just aggrevating.

You're really complicated in terms of tastes and opinions. Frankly, the anime is excellent. I don't see how you can criticize a work without explaining what's wrong with it. The marital relationship was well established beforehand, and fortunately, in episode 11, we see a situation related to this. It's a key point for several characters, so that's good.

@Snaita It started off so strongly, an obvious anime-of-the-season candidate. Then, the pacing has just gotten really weird. Maybe they know they're not getting a second season and are just speeding through stuff to wrap up what they were wanting to do? I don't know.

I still like it and recommend it as part of this season's watching, but it definitely isn't reaching the levels that it once did.

I wouldn’t say he’s a fraud. He can direct well enough, but he’s not a writer. And the writing is where this show falls apart. Unsurprisingly he hasn’t really written anything in the past (besides the script for planetarian which was a preexisting VN).
