I was once someone that thought that such questions were just pseud BS, then I got into essays, analysis and critique and learned that authors indeed put deeper messages, themes and meanings in their works.
I do also believe that art is a "lens": It's not a attribute of the object, but the way we choose to look at such object.

The thing is that today I just saw a guy tweeting
The problem is that Evangelion isn't about mecha. The mecha there is just an excuse to attract the unwary fan.

Followed by
Evangelion is about childbirth, sex and puberty lol they put the robot at the beginning to attract people but if you see the final movie it's just gonads everywhere lol

Now, I just jokingly responded that he likely just accidentally read an omegaverse kawoshin fic instead, but that got me thinking... he likely saw it through that lens because a ton of people told him "Eva is different", so what prevents him from making equally absurd analysis of... anything, really.

What if the curtains are just blue?
Is there a way of preventing oneself from stretching too far?

Wouldn't make much of a difference, it's mostly irrelevant.

having a different lens is pointless when one is blind

I think most of the symbolism in Eva was at least somewhat intentional, but I seem to recall Anno admitting somewhere that the Christian imagery was chosen because it was an exotic religion that most of the Japanese audience would have little prior context for.
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.

Saying Evangelion is about something is quite nonsensical, most of the dialogue in the story literally means nothing, whether it's the techno babble, or the random religious references, it's all meaningless, things just happen for no rhyme or reason...

I think the creator said he chose the name Evangelion because it just sounds nice.

Yes, it's just about social relationships. It's pretty obvious.

I knew this would be about Evangelion before I even read it in the post.

And yes, the curtains are just blue. People just don't want to admit that because they think it makes them smarter to think otherwise, when in reality it's the exact opposite.

What's the difference?

@StarlaFox All the rules in this world were made by someone no smarter than you. So make your own.
