The film was released last week and it made a mind blowing 70.6 million on its opening weekend in North America. This is a new record for an anime film overall and for any animation in US this year.

For comparison, the previous box office record was held by Pokemon's first movie with over 31 million dollars (and ended with over 80 million in its entire run).
Mugen train opened with 21 million and ended with 49 million. The opening of this film alone topples the entire run of Mugen train and almost takes over Pokemon's entire run.

Not only that, it released in plenty of countries this week and it was the number 1 film in most of these countries setting new records for anime films. It has become the highest grossing anime film in the first weekend alone in most countries.

Needless to say that it was the number 1 film this week with over or around 150 million dollars. This is not the first time this film has had the number 1 weekend but 140 to 150 million weekend for an anime film is unheard of.

The film has earned over 484 million dollars as of Monday and its expected to gross over 500 million on Thursday. We are going to see this become the number 1 anime film worldwide this weekend.

It didn’t just break the record. It DOUBLED it.

Demon Slayer is proving time and again why it should be labelled as the grand son of dragon ball and the son of the big three.

@deg Nezha 2 is impossible to beat right now. Even with a China release, I dont see this film going past a billion.

@Fusion8707 First day gross alone defeated the highest grossing anime in India. It's doing extremely well there for animation in general.

Wow, impressive score! And honestly, well deserved. It is another proof that Kimetsu no Yaiba, whether someone likes it or not, is truly a phenomenon in the world of anime and manga that rarely occurs. Thanks for sharing the info.
