As someone who has not watched the movie... is this justified?
The "label" it received (Similar to an ESRB or PEGI label) mentions that it contains "Fear, Sensitive Themes, and Extreme Violence".
By our laws, even if someone has authorization of their parents, they'll still have to be at least 16 years old to watch that.

The fear, themes, and gore it has aren't really any different from what you will find in many other shounen works. It is just a matter of countries having differing values over what is appropriate for minors.

Feels like an interesting subject.
Are there any video-essays about it?

Just watched the movie I think 16+ personally would be reasonable due to the intense gore, violence and trauma displayed in the film. I think 18 is a little high but not unjustified based on the contents of the film. (I am 19).

Demon slayer has always been a show with a ton of messed up scenes and tons of gore. The reason people don’t point it out much is due to demon slayers art style kinda making it look less bad.

I’m going to watch the movie in 7ish hours so idk if they changed anything. I’m a manga reader so what I still remember this pretty well.

Based off memory nothing really over the top happens at least compared to everything in last seasons.

Though depending on how they handle a certain part of a certain characters backstory in this movie it might be justified. If you know you know

It’s rated R in the US, meaning children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Makes sense - lots of blood.

18+ is ridiculous. Any edgy 14 year old has already seen infinitely worse stuff than anything shown in Demon Slayer, and it's a shonen, so it's meant for school aged people. Some countries are so oversensitive.

@Tithain
I did a bit of googling and the movie is rated PG12 in Japan.

I've read many bad things coming from Brazilian government. Brazilians deserved better.

18+ is a rather extreme rating. Such ratings are given to movies or anime that usually feature a lot of sex and violence. Kimetsu "only" has a fair amount of blood, but no more than in average shounen. The first film, in particular, doesn't show any more violence than we've seen in the anime series. Following their line of thinking, most anime films should also be 18+ XD this classification is exaggerated

@dazedcowcow62 Our former president got arrested, so hey, things aren't always so bad.

Akaza blowing his body apart was a little gory but that's about it.
