I’m reading the LN and watching the anime simultaneously, and of course there are differences, yada yada yada. BUT why the F is the MC in the LN such a needy/whiny btch for friends? And in the anime, he’s portrayed as a cold, emotionless btch? Does the director wanna wash the MC clean of his generic high school misfit persona and make him an edgelord from the start? What’s the deal here?

By the waaay!! I just wanna say… y’all are sooo kyuuute I can’t even!! I’m literally about to explode into glitter, rainbows, and sparkly hearts!! I wanna snuggle your adorable lil faces, give you the warmest, squishiest huggies everrr and shower you with endless love and uwu cuddles!!! @KingOfMAL - I think you are mixing up COTE with Bang Dream!

Seriously - I’ve read the LN and can get our point, to some degree, but I have no problem with the anime doing its own thing. I have really enjoyed both.

Nah I’m enjoying both too, I’m just stunned why they chose to portray the MC like that in the anime from the start

I felt the same way after reading the LN. It was bizarre. Not sure why.

Koji is a unreliable narrator in the LN, and that's clear for the many times he has lied to the reader, also including this "whiny behaviour". This concept of unreliability is crucial to define his personality traits and how he thinks, almost trying to make a fool of himself to try to understand normal human emotions.

In the anime, only the outside of him is portrayed, but Ayanokoji is mostly the same (except for the obvious cut content that matter a lot to his character).

Cause the LN shares Ayanokoji's thoughts. While he might seem cold outside, his inner thoughts that time might be the polar opposite.

I thought the exact same thing when I finished the first few volumes. Honestly, I prefer the Light novel Ayanokoji any day since his thoughts are similar to like Hachiman’s from Oregairu or something

That's Manga Ayanokōji not Light Novel!
In the Light Novel he's kinda emotionless, but he wants to change

It's really that different? This adaptation really is beyond bad while adding the fact it's barely animated

Wasn't the English translation of the Light Novel censored/rewritten in some parts? I seem to remember reading such a news story years ago.

Idk why no one else is saying this but here goes:
The LN version of him is how he thinks he comes off. It’s how he’s trying to act. He is fooling the reader into thinking he’s a normal guy. He’s a unique example of the unreliable narrator trope. Many times throughout the book other characters comment on his lack of emotion which is something that conflicts with how he’s saying he’s acting because he is lying about how he’s acting. The drops the charade after the island incident at the part where season one ends and he admits to tool zoning his friends. The anime just decided to not include any of that because I guess they couldn’t find a creative way to implement it
HER. That is all.

The MC in most LN's, mangas, and animes are going to be a little different from each source. Plus, in LN, you can read what they think from each situation. The MC can be a real jerk in the LN because the fact you can read what they think and in the show their the nicest people in the world because you don't have that option.

I thought that the anime was not good.First of all, it is an awful adaptation. In light novel, Ayanokoji has a lowkey aura.Unfortunately, in anime,Author considered just Ayanokoji’s cool aura. For example:he’s doin some tricks and his class is becoming first place in the race during the island exam and author just focused how we show the COOL Ayanokoji. They don’t give a fuck about that how that was happened. They summarized the situation and incident.I irritated with these things.

Anime presents the topics by jumping around, they make the episodes as if they were a summary of the events, LN contains much more monologues.

it's simple really, in the LN you see and hear what's going on in his head while in the anime you get to see what he looks like form the outside without any of his internal monolog.
what you see in the anime is how he appears to everyone else in the school.
it's for nothing to do with making him into an edgelord it's just a matter of prospective.

I haven't read the LN yet or any LN for that matter, but I loved the anime and I'm craving to learn more about him. is reading the LN worth it? Also I wonder how much of the story is still unadapted. Wonder if they will adapt it all

A lot of that is probably inner monologue I believe.

because they want money and the source is always more if you have LN. the anime is kind of a summary of LN that's why the characters look different then LN and the LN show the background and groundwork of the action which cannot be shown in anime so the cut they the scenes mostly.

It’s natural that an anime can’t fully capture everything from the light novel due to time constraints…but it’s still disappointing when important parts get left out.
