| For the next Secret Santa event, I suggest adding a parallel event. Since it will be Christmas, why not let the Elves give one recommendation, either anime or manga, for anyone who asks for one? I volunteered as an elf sometime ago and I noticed that many people didn't seem to get the purpose of the Secret Santa event. They only wanted the badge and/or a recommendation. There were quite a few cases of people most likely using AI to make the personalized recommendations for them since they didn't want to bother to think something by themselves. My guess is that this will occur much more often with the rise of chatbots. If they only want a personalized recommendation, why not just give it to them? Allowing one event to handle those who only want to receive a gift would hopefully reduce the amount of disruption in MAL's Secret Santa. For the elves, the most time consuming and arduous parts of the event seemed to be the matchmaking and the inspection of every single entry. But when it came to fill in the shoes of those who didn't show up, the elves were quite glad to write recommendations for those who ended up without one. All senior elves were extremely knowledgeable of the field they were administering so unless a huge number of requests for recommendations suddenly appeared, I don't think they would have much trouble. |
