I remember back when a lot of people were ragging on the ending when it first released because [spoilers] of Deku becoming a teacher instead of the next All Might [/spoilers]. On the other hands I’ve seen some people online I.e. on this site here actually say it isn’t bad at all. What do you all think about the ending in light of the final season coming?

I think the ending works well for the story, considering how it evolved over the course of its development.

But it's also because of the initial premise (which Deku repeated ad nauseam while narrating) that the ending doesn't work because it's very different from what we might have expected from the start.

We got proper closure for most characters in the last few chapters, as well as in the extra one. I'm satisfied.

Still salty about all the build up of the situation only for the world to continue on unchanged. Not that I expected major changes but it feels static. I have similar qualms with Naruto's Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer ending so this is on brand for me

To play devil’s advocate maybe the ending shows that Deku had a change of heart or sole growth?

Going from wanting to be the greatest hero to believing that you don’t need to be that to do good in the world? I kinda love the idea of Deku being a quirkless teacher. Once he saw his quirklessness as an inadequacy he would want to be rid of and now he’s accepted that or something.

Hmm, interesting.

How did you find the world to be unchanged, and how would you write the story to show that change?

Not saying this as a criticism of your criticism I am just curious.

Exactly, I totally agree with you. The ending fits perfectly to Deku's journey through the series and to the whole BNHA story actually.

But Deku spent 7 seasons telling us he became the biggest hero ever and I think that might had sent a different idea than what the story was actually telling us and that's why some fans hated the ending.

It's still terrible and pretty generic tbh. It is what it is though. Most popular shonen have a bad ending anyways so it was to be expected.

With 431 and the oneshot it’s actually good. It shows his recognition and he starts a relationship and it shows he didn’t just jump off teaching he likes raising a new generation of heroes it’s something he feels he needs to do
