Hello guys !

Just wondering : do we have any info on why the Tendou House is inverted/mirror from the original Anime ?

I don't think the original manga had that same "layout direction" too. I think I vividly remember people going right from the living room to the entrance hall, in both the manga and old anime (but could be wrong on the manga).

What's weird is that, even though things are mirrored/inverted, the content of some rooms didn't change.
I may be a creep for saying this, but both the bathroom and Akane's room don't seem inverted : bed and bath are in the same place in relation to the entrance of the room.

However, the kitchen and the dojo entrances seem to be properly mirrored in regards to the whole layout.

Just wondering if there were some statement about that change :)

If you read the first English releases of the manga they were mirrored to make it easier for western audiences to read

the remake is actually more accurate to the manga. and as bossunhimeswitch said, the original English manga release was mirrored in its entirety, which was the style at the time.

my best guess as to why they changed the layout in the 1987 anime would be that they wanted to have a shot from the outside in during the introduction scene while still keeping the same character arrangement as in the manga, with the Tendos on the left and Saotomes on the right. and I would agree that it is a visually more interesting shot than what we get in the remake.

the original adaptation does generally take a lot more artistic liberty throughout, often for the better. if I had one complain about the remake, it's that it often looks really dull or plays things out too slapsticky. go watch Kuno's introduction and first fight with Ranma to see what I mean. the serious tone and heightened drama of the 80's version adds a lot to the ridiculousness of the entire scene and Kuno's buffoonery.

Replying way too late, I completely forgot that I posted :D

Big thanks to both of you guys for the answers, so it is indeed more faithful. I'm so used to the OG anime that that inversion weirded out a bit but I still loved the remake nonetheless.

I do agree that some of 80s anime charm seems to be a bit lost in this remake, but I can make my peace with it.
