To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Angel's Egg premiere, there is going to be released a 4k remaster in 2025.

@deg Redrawing in remasters is usually reserved for bad frames (see Gundam SEED and lotgh) so I doubt they even considered that. The film looks good.
They could rescan the 35mm masters if they still exist and digitally clean up any dirt and scratches. That's what they usually do for Blu Ray releases of older films and it looks fantastic provided the masters still exist. I learned how to do the cleanup with a convolutional neural network in university it's actually ridiculously simple with all the libraries that exist out there.

Pretty interesting choice speaking on how this is the literal opposite of the safe anime that is comming out these days

I also enjoyed the old creepy VHS astatic, I find that its one of the charm.

it just aired at fantasia and it was an incredible remastering. it really holds up a large screen, and you can really see every single line and detail. the presenter made a joke about the extremely terrible VHS rip quality we've all been subjected to all these years as well.
