| Despite some parts feeling a bit like padding (like the wolves), it's quite nice to have almost 4 volumes dedicated to description of a battle/skirmish. The emphasis on tactics from both sides was quite nice, and even the deus ex machina felt somewhat earned (more so as it came only after major losses rather than a moment before them). One pet peeve is that I feel like the author is underestimating the audience a bit. When a weapon of mass destruction is described and then later a myth about mass destruction is brought up, we don't need "If only Guin would have heard about the mass destruction device from the magic guy, he would have made the connection", we can deduce that connection on our own without the "hint" thank you very much. |
