I very much appreciated seeing Konno-san's backstory at the beginning of this chapter. It gave us an understanding behind her behavior in the first two chapters. Being betrayed by a friend is a truly hurtful situation to find oneself in, and I can sympathize with the path she took in school after that. It led to her becoming a part of this strong clique we saw at the beginning of the manga, before the disaster. Going with the flow, sticking with the strong.

But let's be honest. Morishige-san is running the show. She is the one who controls the fate of the whole group. How appropriate for the tarot enthusiast she is. (See what I did there?) That said, her decision of rationing food based on a hierarchy system is plain cruel. Everyone is suffering since the crash, and she takes it out on the other girls. And I get it. I was bullied at school too. To the point of dropping out, and developing a crippling social anxiety that has followed me for the last 20 years. It sucks to be bullied, I know all about it. But I certainly wouldn't have revelled in seeing them die, or seeing them suffer and struggle if they survived. She is going too far. Morishige-san has some screws loose that I don't believe necessarily have to do with something such as justice being served. What she's doing is far beyond school bullying level of cruelty.

Some of the people that mocked her are among the cast (Konno-san, Ichinose-san, and Usui-san to a lower degree), and it's her time to be in the spotlight, to be the one in power. I get all that. But there's a big difference between mocking, belittling, ridiculing somebody... and cruelly finding joy in people's pain and the death of classmates.

The climax of the chapter kept me on edge. Morishige-san ordered Konno-san and Ichinose-san to duke it out for the privilege of food. Playing on Ichinose-san's feelings to push her to go on the attack... It was a very unsettling ending to the first volume, and much as I dislike how far Morishige-san is going, I loved this ending. I'm very much looking forward to the next volume. Darn cliffhangers!
