| Imo both, while the story overall is the same (except some minor cut in Crybaby and it being in modern setting) they try to convey a different kind of message, i'd say the manga has more of a social purpose while Crybaby a more personal/relational message and meaning, both are great anyway, i personally prefer the manga but the changes made are pretty understandable |
| If you don't mind highly outdated art but a more clear and nicely paced introduction: read the manga. If you want to watch 10 episodes in a niche artstyle, great animation, at high pacing and amazing music: watch Crybaby. Some will say Crybaby is terrible but that's just wrong. The message is just a bit different from the manga, not in a good nor bad way. Manga: war = bad | Anime: humans can be evil! I started with Crybaby and ordered the Classic Editions the day after, 0 regrets. Reading it after the show feels surprisingly fresh; compared to other titles it feels like an entirely new thing. |
