I'm glad that Disney's Little Mermaid didn't exist back then (although I'm skeptical if Tezuka would've enjoyed that one), seeing as Tezuka already imbued Luna with so many Snow White qualities, I'm glad that nothing but the source fairy tale of Hans Christian Andersen existed back then.

I understand Tezuka (and everyone's) love for these kind of innocent sweet beautiful pure Ingenue heroines but personally I find that it makes her character unrelatable and uninteresting, currently I don't see any reason to root for her

-
Also I'm glad there exist actual mermaids, we'll have to find out their connection to the royal family...

This doesn't have a direct connection to Angel no Oka but I recently saw the art of Anton Lomaev and his illustrations for the little mermaid are just gorgeous:

- also her being a Friend to All Things with the animals was surely cute and I obviously don't fit the intended audience but I still found that aspect a little out of place

- I like the way that Tezuka always uses some sort of karmic cycle wherein characters are being punished in this kind of almost ironic manner, such as Akemi forcing Luna to take her place and becoming her double just to endure all the things she doesn't want to go through, resulting in her being mistaken as Luna and therefore kidnapped/ in process of almost being sacrificed.
I've noticed him use these kind of body swap scenarios in his other series frequently as well, some particular Black Jack cases and MW chapters come to mind, but then again it's been a very famous literary trope and cliche for fairy tales long before Tezuka.

-some of my personal favorite pages/panels (artistically) random order:

Akemi is in big trouble, but Luna is still in Japan, as Akemi's parents believe that she's Akemi, because they look almost identical.

Eiji has been taken to Angel Island as well, and has been blinded. Will he ever regain his sight?
