I caught some random parts this past weekend, and them keeping the old theme was a nice touch. The animation style isn't really one I like for transformers, but it could be something I could get used to. I wasn't really paying attention enough to say anything conclusive about the story but it was also not enough to keep my attention, I'll need to watch a few episodes in their entirety to get a solid opinion.
C'mon, part of the TF's appeal is the aesthetics. How can you have that when it looks like something your eight year old brother drew. And it looks like total crap, but you don't tell HIM that, 'cause...well, you know....he's eight. But some so called "adults" came up with this, a fact that boggles my mind.
Somebody call me when they're doing one for Binaltech or a G1 remake (or even a new TF anime)...
Jumping in Headfirst - I hear reading it causes immortality. Warning. Reading may not actually cause immortality.
TF anime = TF Armada :D Well, TF Animated has it's crappy art based on current fasty style sketches but rest of the toon is great! Ok, it have too many weak fillers (super villans are horrible @_@) but robots are awesome! In my opinion those are the best character designs in all TF history. This is the first time when Optimus doesn't irritate me. Rest of the Autobots are also easy going - G1 childness and naive manners where pain in the ass for me. Decepticons rock in TF Animated - Blitzwing is simply fantastic!
Now that you mention it, I heard Optimus was a n00b in this one. More reason to hate it. I also get the feeling the Autobots in that series don't make the best heroes. No heroic Autobots = Waste. Of. Time.
BTW...best designs? How do they even transform? :P The animation loses a frame and the robot is just replaced with the car? :D

They are heroic, but they are just newbies (Ratchet is the only great war veteran in this team). And man - i've never liked Autobots so much :) They are far more realistic. And Optimus' face when Sari explains him how humans are 'created' - priceless xD Take a look: http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=r1UgFy47MVg
And I meant character designs - mentality, personality etc. TF Animated is awesome here. Just take a look at Blitzwing: http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=5dNJrP2gBSI

The animation style is meant to appeal to old G1 fans who happen to have children and want to watch Transformers with their kids. Much like the 'The Batman Series'. And... I highly doubt that an eight year old could, most of them, draw that well. Truth be told, one has to like the new style and/or get used to it. And... the style is meant to be comical too. Because believe me, the show has adult jokes hidden in it that a child wouldn't get unless they knew.
As for calling Optimus a n00b, they meant that he was a newbie, not a loser. As for them not being the best heros... I putting this in spoiler tags for those who don't want to see it.
Optimus is basically a academy washout. The reason why he washed out is not given, at least up to the point I have seen. But his own crew is questioning why he actually washed out as he has the rules memorized, is a good leader and is willing to put his life on the line to protect anything equivilant to life.
It is likely that he washed out because he was actually too much like his name sake, trying to choose the least disasterous route instead of all out warfare. There is one character... can't remeber his name/who he's named for, but he makes fun of Optimus for this and washing out.
Also, Optimus's crew isn't a battle crew. They were in charge of taking care of cleaning up an astroid belt away from everyone else when some events happened that made them end up on Earth. They are not 'heros' in their own eyes, but they are heros to the humans they incounter on Earth.
And, even though they doubt themselves and they are the laughing stalk, they aren't bad at what they do. It is just that they aren't academy bots that is the problem. Yet they turn out very good. Most of Cybertron hasn't a clue how well they actually are doing, but it is very well.
Transformers Animated is really something you have to watch to understand. And, one needs to understand, they aren't the original bots. Going into that, a lot of it runs on comedy and the detailed personalities of the bots there.
Here is my favorite line from the show... I hope I didn't misquote it.
Bumblebee: Hi. My name is Bumblebee.
Sari: I'm Sari.
Bumblebee: Don't be. I like my name.
(Sari is pronaounced the same as the word sorry. It was a great pun.)
I am waiting for first season to come out on DVD personally.
Heh, its two seasons already. Not so long ago I was watching first episode, thinking about, what next eps will be like and its over already.
Of course its pretty clear that there will be season 3, and I hope it will be at least as good as previous seasons.
Yet I must say I was a little dissapoited about the last eps of second season.
There was no Soundwave -.- Seekers were kinda boring, and none was mentioned by name. There was no mass - battle. I hoped Decepticons will invade Cybertron and we will se some of that great battle like those from G1 series. Instead of that - another ep with more talking than fighting.
Yet I think its not a bad series. Seen worse (Cybertron, Beast Machines)
Well, aside from being a total unabashed dork, I just recently discovered this club when it occurred to me that TF might have a presence on MAL, so, I guess I'll go ahead and chime in.
First a little Transformers history regarding me - I'm just old enough to have caught the tail end of G1, and really got into TF with Beast Wars, so, um, there.
Anyway...
I for one am really enthralled with the new series, and....dare I say it...yes, it's better than G1. The characters, while not the greatest, seem to have more depth than their G1 counterparts (especially Blitzwing, who just makes every scene he appears in). And once again, dare I say it, best Starscream ever. Sari for once is actually more than tolerable, and I like Dr. Sumdac. The whole show just seems to have a pretty decent flow to it, and they handle the introduction of new characters pretty well, at least generally.
Also, I really like how they tease the viewers too and add in enough fodder for some mystery and speculation. On TVTropes they were saying from day 1 (yes, the pilot show) that the ship the Autobots were using was really Omega Supreme, and needless to say what we learned about Sari at the end of Season 2
Also, if any of you have seen the toy line - WOW. I think this might be one of the most show-accurate TF toy lines ever, and considering the animation style, just...WOW.
Now for the not-so-great stuff.
I hate how they n00b'd Optimus. Optimus should be more like how Ultra Magnus is on the show, not Hot Rod in Optimus' clothing. But they actually handle it just well enough for me to ignore it.
The human villains are for the most part lame, though Meltdown is a very interesting and worthy match for the Autobots.
That's actually all the legitimate complaints I have, but the biggest gripe I have is actually related to the toy line. In most of the toy lines, it's pretty clear that they actually went to some pretty great lengths to make the toys as show-accurate as possible. Now, Blitzwing's alt mode is pretty darn show-accurate, and his tank mode is pretty good, but his jet mode completely and totally sucks. Yes, I know, some people adamantly claim that it's show accurate, but c'mon, show me when Blitzwing's tracks are visible when he's in jet form in the show!
Ah well, maybe this is just a limitation of the voyager-class model, hopefully they'll do a sculpt of him for some of the pricer lines.
Hey, Blitzwing cannot lower his cannons in robot mode - that's the biggest failure in this toy. It was awesome when he started making menace with his back guns in toon.
And i admit - Animated is far more tolerable for adult viewer than G1. G1 was for kids only, the plot was simple and predictable. If someone liked G1 - he'll love Animated.
I have to agree with the characters having more depth then G1. I am not sure about the new Optimus being Hot Rod in Optimus's body instead of being more like Ultra Magnus. Hot Rod was a hothead and never thought things through, this guy does.
And as for the term n00b, I think that the only reason people have been calling him a n00b is because one person on the internet called him that. n00b, it can mean newb, newbie or new person, but he ISN'T new to this. The other thing that n00b is, is someone who is acting like a newbie in a bad way that annoys other. While this Optimus isn't confident in himself, he still has the knowhow and ability to act like a hero, more then the egocentric counter part back on Cybertron.
Don't all the toys have some sort of error? At least they have come farther then they have before... look at the Beast Wars series... Cheetor and the others were out of proportion... admitidly though I am a major fan of cats, cheetahs and the charactor Cheetor, so there may be some bias there.
I only bought Jazz but I'm quite impressed with how much the toy resembles the TV version. Because of the way they are drawn, I thought that design will be impossible to use as a toy model without some drastic modifications...

Yeah... well, they have come father... my point was that even as they get closer and closer, there will be some things they have yet to figure out to do.
Pretend you're an Autobot for countless years to work up the ranks to become the top intell person, only to use it to help out Megatron, and still kick ass.
Then there was Wreck-Gar and the whole "Starscream" clone gag.
I watched some of its episodes, and they disgusts me. Just as the newest series 'Prime', it's even the worst shit for my opinion. Too American, and I hate both Animated and Michael Bay's TF visual styles. I can't stand such ugly Transformers, don't want to see them in such appearance, so I ignore this new series and movies. I'm a fan of classic style, i.e. like in G1, H-M-V and Unicron duology.
I love Transformers Animated and it's my second favorite Transformers series besides Beast Wars. What I like is that it looks like a stupid kiddy show but it's really well written and has a lot of little references to Transformers fans. The first season was sub par with all the lame human villains but it still had a few good episodes like Thrill of the Hunt(every Lockdown episode is amazing). After Megatron Rising this show got really good though.
Speaking of Megatron this is my favorite version of the character. Corey Burton is easily the best Transformers VA and this shows it. His voice for Megatron was so badass. I love Transformers Animated it's a great series and the toyline was awesome as well. The Shockwave figure is one of my favorites in my collection.
