I found an interesting topic entitled GazettE facts!.

one of the post said this:

"They've had had some weird dreams...Ruki's nearly been killed by a cat; Uruha's been shot; Aoi saw laughing corpses; Reita was the vocalist of Gazette; Kai's mother was Reita"

Interesting, right? Maybe you can share some of your facts (proven from reliable source) that most probably, if not all, missed to know by others (that includes me for being in hiatus for so long hehehe)

so post, NOW!! XD

I read somewhere that he didn't know how to boil an egg XD

I also read that if Uruha won the lottery then he'd make a clone of himself...and call it Uruha2

And this is just a little something i found <3

What do you do when you're depressed?
Reita: I sleep.
Ruki&Kai: Me too.
Aoi: I sleep until I can't anymore.
Reita: Whenever I wake up I'm usually okay again.
Uruha: I drink. Then I get violent and go to sleep.
"Uruha: So why is Kai-kun the leader?
Kai: I'm the one who wants to question this the most though (laugh)
Ruki: It's a wonder to everyone in the country
Aoi: Then let's just say I'm the best answer
Kai: Will the mystery finally be solved?
Aoi: I guess one reason would be his virtuousness
Reita: Definitely
Kai: Oh? What's with that?
Uruha: Virtuousness, capability, skill
Kai: Stop! Hurry up and drop it."

So... Sorry... Took me so long...
Btw, I turn this into an interview thread now... >.<
Gomene...

So... this is the bands comment on Dim's album songs...

01. [剥離 – peeling-off]
[This is the opening of the album, still it’s not meant to be connected to the second song. Meaning-wise it is the same as shedding one’s skin and letting if fall off. It’s supposed to be like spitting everything out from there on with that meaning. (Ruki)]
02. [The Invisible Wall]
[First of all, we wanted to make a song with a difficult drum-beat. (Ruki)]
[There are very different elements inserted into this and the recording of all of it took quite some time. (Kai)]
[However, I think this has turned out to be the most distinct song of all - it is good in that position. (Aoi)]
03. [A Moth Under The Skin]
[We made this song with the thought of putting in more features of our bassist. (Aoi)]
[This seemed like my time to be and eventually bathe in the spotlight. (laughs) I think it is good, how it came out crisp and clear. (Reita)]
04. [LEECH]
[Unchangingly the A-melody is straining the song quite a bit, but that is how we had recorded it during the time of the single (at first). We tried to get back to that again, and rather than being a new version, it became more of the original version again. (Ruki) ]
05. [泣ヶ原 – crying fields]
[For this song, too, I still think we could have done this even better when looking at it now. (Ruki)]
[I was wondering how much of an emotion I could produce just with the guitar. I looked (towards making this song), thinking, that it would be great to express this with that song. (Aoi)]
06. [エ リ カ-- Erika]
[This is the continuation of [泣ヶ原 - Nakigahara]. Erika is also the name of a flower. In the language of flowers it stands for [Loneliness] and in that context, it includes the bad feeling of it being a woman’s name, too. I made this sound to produce just the worst feeling, too. (Ruki)]
07. [HEADACHE MAN]
[This is the ending theme of that movie coming out this fall. (Aoi)]
[When the director got to know us, we did have a couple of songs to choose from, however, this one was chosen, because we, ourselves, did not seem very aggressive as the Gazette. (Kai)]
08. [紅蓮 – Red Lotus]
[I think it is good, how we were able to make this not sound like it is actually one year and a half old already. (Uruha)]
[The singing part was actually only redone in one single part. There was this one part which I frequently changed during our lives. (Ruki)]
09. [子宮 – Uterus]
[This is supposed to be the 3rd-person-view on [紅蓮 - Guren]. I made this thinking [What would a theme-song for this story be like?] The title is printed reversed as the sounds are also all played reversed. (Ruki)]
10. [13STAIRS[-]1]
[The original melody was produced by Uruha, and I believe, that its lethargy actually turned out pretty good. (Aoi)]
[It’s a pretty maniacal song, but I think it is good, that the greatness of it is still brought across somehow. (Uruha)]
[During the lives, I’d really like to do this song without the clicking-sound. (Kai)]
11. [DISTRESS AND COMA]
[It is this song from which we actually started into [DIM] (Reita)]
[We caught on from something at that point, bringing it all along the album, stretching it even more and could see even further up from there. (Uruha)]
12. [感触 – Sensation]
[This is like a prelude to [白き優鬱 – Shiroki Yuutsuu]. Still, it’s like a scene of a memory. I thought that inserting this into the album would make it easier to listen to and that it would deepen the album as one.]
13. [白き優鬱 – Blunt /White Melancholy]
[This is really a song much like Aoi’s. (Ruki)]
[I wanted to create something with a motive, which is not like our usual color, however, at its completion with Ruki’s lyrics added, it solely became a very Gazette-like song. (Aoi)]
14. [IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS]
[From the approach of the guitars it is greatly a song of ours and I think I was able to create this sense of existence and let it be felt. (Uruha)]
[This is a great feeling to the song and lately I can go totally crazy over it playing it over and over. (Aoi)]
15. [朦朧 – Diffusion]
[This is the intro to [OGRE], like the person turning into a demon. It is as if there was a bug, something that is changing me from the inside and the resulting trance of that. (Ruki) ]
16. [OGRE]
[This song felt like [Are we actually doing this at last?!] (Uruha)]
[At first this song had been pretty fast, even to the point where I would just say, I couldn’t do it. So we tried to lower it a bit, but actually, it is still as fast. (Ruki)]
17. [DIM SCENE]
[More than making this a ballade, we really wanted to make this to show a very dark side within ourselves. (Uruha)]
[The lyrics are also very appropriate for this song and in a good shape we were able to let this be the end of the album, I think. (Reita)]

Credits to Ducky Translation for translating. ^^

Q1
The most cathartic scenery is?
A1
Ruki-"The sight of my pet dog sleeping."
Uruha-"The morning view from my verandah, and the scene visible from the place where I leave the entranceway."
Aoi-"The natural view of the high skies from my parents' home."
Reita-"The time I look at the mirror after waking up in the morning......being a joke, my room."
Kai-"Absolutely clear, blue skies devoid of humidity. So I can feel soothed only once or twice a year."

Q2
Please tell us your methods to deal with a cold.
A2
Ruki-"I go to the hospital immediately. In case there is something, I also get myself an IV drip."
Uruha-"I buy 2 litres of Amino Supli, drink it off and go to sleep."
Aoi-"I think I won't catch a cold so I don't catch it."
Reita-"I sleep. Unless my temperature is above 39 degrees, I definitely don't go to the hospital."
Kai-"I eat things with plenty of nutrients in them."

Q3
What do you feel is important in life?
A3
Ruki-"It's ambitions."
Uruha-"The desire to improve oneself. If that dies, one is a living corpse, you know."
Aoi-"Thinking about how to earn money. Things like love, I'm too cold to talk about them."
Reita-"Loving oneself."
Kai-"I'm sure this'll sound obvious, but a sense of gratitude."

Q4
The pet you want to try raising?
A4
Ruki-"A Chihuahua of the exact same colour as the Chihuahua I have now."
Uruha-"I want to raise the smartest dog in the world."

Kai-"The Munchkin cat. It's so tiny and cute."

Q5
The music you're addicted to right now?
A5
Ruki-"Right now I mostly listen to Techno."
Uruha-"It changes with the situation. Whatever calms me in the car."
Aoi-"The songs selected for the GazettE's Tour. I'm listening to them in order to recall them."

Kai-"The Live DVD of Thee Michelle Gun Elephant I borrowed from Reita."

And this is their interview from Neo Genesis vol.46 about the new single [SHIVER]

the GazettE, having entered their 9th year since their formation. Despite there being changes with time, listening to their music and watching their Lives, what one always thinks is how they have consistently followed the course of maintaining their perfection. Consequently, a group interview taking a close-up look at the enviable relationship among the 5 members. We also received advance information regarding “SHIVER” coming out soon, and the imminent long tour drawing closer.

--------Once again, as the relationship among the 5 of you as the theme, please let us hear about the parts of you that have changed, and the parts that haven’t. We’ve talked about how since the early times the GazettE have had the sort of relationship where you can quarrel over anything without having to take each other into consideration, but have there been any changes to that recently?

Ruki—The 4 of us haven’t changed, you know. But talking of ever since we started, (looking at Kai), there’s this new participant, you see (laughs).

Kai—……please (laughs).

Reita—In the beginning, he wasn’t quite the one to get bullied, was he now.

Kai—More than that, I wasn’t one to be outdone by others (laughs).

Aoi—He was very frank so he’d make a lot of noise, but these days, he tends to be more mellow with his image (laughs).

--------So basically because Kai has adapted, everybody else has remained unchanged.

Ruki—We haven’t changed, but we feel sort of tired (laughs). Even if the members get together, we don’t make as much noise as we used to in the past (laughs). I mean, isn’t that how things are?

Reita—Ruki is noisy (laughs).

Ruki—No, I’m not noisy, but I feel we no longer fool around as much as we used to do in the past.

Aoi—Ah, that explosiveness has gone, right? (laughs)

Ruki—Even the memory has gone (laughs).

--------(laughs) Apart from band stuff, do you also normally quarrel over private matters?

Ruki—On the contrary, we talk of nothing but private matters. If we start talking about band stuff the build-up just slows down (laughs). For example, if we get talking about soccer or games, we go “Oh~yeah!”, but if it gets to “What about the songs?”, we’re all, “Hm~”.

Reita—Doesn’t Ruki make the most fuss?

Aoi—Well, without a doubt, Ruki is the King of Digression (laughs).

Reita—The type who isn’t suited to be a (train) conductor (laughs). In the past, Kai was the one who used to give us the laughs, you know. Sending weird picture-mails, and stuff (laughs). But these days, not that much.

Kai—I almost wonder whether or not it happened even once in the entire year, me making everybody laugh.

Ruki—You probably did try to make us laugh, but ended up irritating us instead (laughs).

Uruha—But there are those times when you introduce interesting movies to us, right?

Reita—Hats off to Kai’s sense of movies (laughs).

Ruki—Because there’s a punch line waiting after one has finished watching the movie, isn’t it?

Uruha—He creates an original side-story for us (laughs).

Kai—(wry smile)

--------What if the taste in movies doesn’t match? Aren’t there members in the GazettE who don’t talk about their private matters?

Aoi—Well, we don’t talk about the finer details, you know. Just to the extent of answering if asked.

--------So, is the way all of you deal with these distances the same?

Ruki—Well it’s not as if we keep secrets from each other (laughs). Say there’s a holiday, so it goes like, “Did you go somewhere?” and “Eh? I didn’t.”.

--------For example, if there’s someone in really low spirits, or is clearly not feeling well, what sort of a band is the GazettE in response to such a situation?

Reita—Well, we prepare a Mikoshi and give them a ride (laughs).

Kai—Right?

Uruha—We don’t get company from anybody if we can’t raise our own spirits (laughs).

Ruki—Hm. We just get left behind, isn’t it? (laughs)

Uruha—Unless we get into it ourselves, nobody talks to us (laughs).

--------(laughs) You get ignored.

Ruki—And after a while, the atmosphere turns such that it becomes difficult to get into the conversation by yourself (laughs).

Uruha—If you’re tired and you get into it for no reason, then you’ll get hurt (laughs).

--------Is there no one of the sort who worries and asks, “What’s wrong?”?

Ruki—Yes. On the contrary, we’re the sort of band where if someone does worry, he’s asked “What’s wrong?” instead (laughs).

--------Isn’t there a bothersome, motherly-type here?

Ruki—There isn’t.

Uruha—Kai was, in the past.

Kai—Is that so? But that wasn’t how it was.

--------Hahaha. You’re all mother-less, aren’t you.

Ruki—Let alone a mother, there isn’t even a father (laughs).

--------Parent-less. Still, there must have been changes, at a personal level, among all of you, so we’d like to have all of you talk about each person’s case. Starting with Kai?

Reita—(Kai is) tired, isn’t it?

--------Is that grief floating about?

Ruki—It’s not grief, you know. It’s despair (laughs). Like falling down to the depths.

Kai—Well, I, sort of, don’t talk much these days, do I?

Ruki—Not being there even for the recording, etc.

Uruha—He’s not well.

Kai—No, I’m fine.

Uruha—And, his lips are gradually turning purple (laughs).

Aoi—Even though he says he isn’t unwell.

Reita—His eyes look dead (laughs).

--------There isn’t even one good thing being said over here.

Kai—But I’m happy at the times when I’m with everybody, you know.

Aoi—That, is so true (laughs).

--------How about Uruha?

Reita—He uses his iPhone a lot, doesn’t he?

Ruki—Before we knew it, he had turned into an expert on home appliances (laughs). But, he hasn’t changed much, you know. He’s always been obsessive and fond of new things. Even for a car, he fixates over all the things one can fixate over.

--------The obsessiveness remains unchanged. What have you been obsessing over recently?

Ruki—Home appliances, isn’t it? (laughs)

--------Like, iPad?

Ruki—Like equipment.

Uruha—(laughs) Those aren’t home appliances, are they?

Aoi—There isn’t even one level-headed person here, you see. But Uruha always seems to carry the bearing of the most level-headed one, so how about that? (laughs)

Uruha—(laughs)

Aoi—He’s admirable, you know. Since the former days, he’d come to the Studio even if it weren’t his recording.

Ruki—Ah, that’s true.

Kai—He still hasn’t changed, in that aspect.

--------That’s admirable.

Aoi—He looks at the band as a whole. Before we knew it, he had turned into a bandmaster-like figure.

Ruki—He’s wonderful.

Uruha—Didn’t you say things like “Won’t you come?” for the initial (vocals) recording? (laughs).

Ruki—Hahaha. We went to the studio together, didn’t we?

--------You mean, there’s never a time when Uruha isn’t at the Studio?

Reita—There isn’t.

Uruha—Hey that’s not true, you know. I just thought, I had to go until Kai’s part came along (laughs).

Kai—(wry smile) Hey that’s not true. I go there too (laughs).

Reita—That’s because he, goes to watch the movies (laughs).

--------Ah, to look for movies to recommend to the members, right? (laughs)

Kai—No, no, no.

Ruki—You do go (laughs).

--------How about Reita?

Ruki—Hm~, the impression hasn’t changed much, I suppose. He stopped wearing Aloha tee-shirts (laughs).

Aoi—(looking at Reita’s attire) The low-quality hasn’t changed, has it?

Reita—What low-quality? Aren’t these fashionable denims? (laughs)

Ruki—Well, he hasn’t changed. Him wearing white shoes, that hasn’t changed, first of all. (laughs)

Uruha—Look at you! At a glance, doesn’t your appearance look low-quality?

Ruki—I mean, doesn’t it peev you? (laughs)

--------W-Wild?

Ruki—Are you wild?

Aoi—Could be wild, or could be that he doesn’t have money (laughs). The potential doesn’t change, you see.

Ruki—The shallowness of potential.

Reita—I’m the only one whose attire keeps getting talked about all the time. If you look at it from a gaudy perspective, it could be called gaudy (laughs).

Uruha—Like, wearing a Yokosuka jumper from the recordings (laughs).

Reita—(laughs) Sukajan, right?

--------There’s also the thing about not letting go of things one likes, isn’t it?

Reita—The bothersome things (about me) haven’t changed.

Kai—Didn’t they change? You never used to move, in the past.

--------It’s not visible at a glance, is it, the bothersome part.

Ruki—If there’s be a break for 3 days, he’d stay cooped up at his place eating things from the convenience store for all the 3 days.

Reita—True. Food is really cumbersome, isn’t it? I’d stock up on convenience store food. And then my parents wouldn’t be able to stay indifferent to it any longer and would send me vegetable juice.

Uruha—So eventually, didn’t those things have a “Best Before” date?

Kai—His eating habits still haven’t changed.

--------How about Ruki?

Reita—There isn’t anything except things we can’t talk about (laughs).

Aoi—Can’t be said, isn’t it? (laughs). But, Ruki hasn’t changed much either, has he?

Reita—Hm. He hasn’t changed, so I don’t have much interest in him (laughs).

Ruki—I don’t have much interest in myself either (laughs).

Uruha—How many clothes do you have? That, to this day, has been a mystery, isn’t it?

Ruki—(laughs) That, isn’t a mystery~. Don’t ask me about it~.

Uruha—And yet, I have never seen you wearing the same clothes twice.

Reita—Your (tee-shirt sleeves) don’t even get frayed like mine do (laughs).

Everybody—(laughs)

Reita—Oh, here’s something that’s changed about Ruki. For example, when I’m telling an interesting story to someone, he forcibly shoves himself into the conversation with an interesting story of his own, right? (laughs)

Ruki—Isn’t that something that hasn’t changed? (laughs)

Uruha—Talking of things that have changed, he’s no longer as amiable as he used to be, you know.

Ruki—What, I got lonely (laughs).

--------As in, a little lonely, because he doesn’t get invited over all that much?

Uruha—A little lonely.

Aoi—If there’s a mail, once in a while, I get really happy. Because I feel that I too am still dependable (laughs).

--------Were the mails very frequent earlier?

Aoi—I used to be asked various things, but it’s as if my duties are over now (laughs).

Reita—Also, he’s stopped losing things. In the past, he was just like Kai (laughs). Like, he’d go to the Parking and forget his wallet, and all.

Ruki—Recently, I think there have only been instances like, say, during shopping, I only pay the money, and think that I’ve taken the bought articles with me, but only realize that after someone calls out to stop me. I don’t make any huge blunders.

--------Eh. Would you, like, forget your mobile phone in the past?

Ruki—Like, I’d forget the house I had to return to (laughs).

--------(laughs) Don’t forget that, alright? Did you think about remedying this?

Ruki—I didn’t think about remedying it as such, but I just think, “It’ll be bad to lose this”, so things don’t get lost then.

Kai—Well, it’s perhaps just that they (lost things) slip out of sight. And it’s just that people like me happen to stand out.

Ruki—Kai has changed in that aspect (laughs).

--------Well, he stands out even in that sense, doesn’t he?

Aoi—There’s something that bothers me though……Do you know Kai’s e-mail address?

Ruki—I do.

Aoi—Ah, really? Well, good then.

Ruki—(reads out the address looking at his phone)

Kai—Don’t say it, don’t say it (laughs). It hasn’t yet been registered.

Ruki—This fellow keeps changing it constantly, you know (laughs).

Kai—Even to the extent of asking “What’s my address?” to Reita.

Uruha—Because you keep changing it, right?

Aoi—True. Don’t I also send mails to everybody in a group? It’s always like, ‘You changed it again?’.

Kai—No, no, no, I don’t change it that much!

Everybody—(laughs)

--------Lastly, what about Aoi?

Reita—He stopped giving us cigarettes on birthdays (laughs).

Uruha—He stopped sending mails on birthdays (laughs).

Reita—In the past, at times when there was no money even to buy cigarettes……

Aoi—It’s always that, when the talk turns to me, isn’t it (laughs)

Reita—Right.

Ruki—He gave us treats, once in a while.

Kai—That hasn’t changed.

Uruha—He gave us a treat quite recently too.

--------He’s a lavisher, isn’t he?

Ruki—Hm, that’s true.

Aoi—I haven’t changed, perhaps.

--------Haven’t changed, much like Reita?

Aoi—Having that said about me was slightly, unexpected (laughs).

Kai—But Aoi hasn’t changed much, has he?

Ruki—He’s become a lot more harmonious. He was like a sharp knife in the past (laughs). Now he’s the most genial one, and kind even to the juniors.

Aoi—I guess I just got tired.

--------Of being a sharp knife?

Ruki—Hahaha.

Aoi—Of being so unrelenting.

Ruki—And as a backlash, Kai has started being unrelenting (laughs).

--------Is Kai going through his rebellious age right now?

Uruha—He’s going fresher day by day (laughs).

Reita—Fresh? (laughs)

Kai—(bitter laugh)

Uruha—(looking at Aoi) But, hasn’t his attire turned chic? (laughs)

Ruki—With the days, isn’t it? (laughs) For a time, he’d wear those Cowichan sweaters, you know (laughs).

--------That could be because of having grown up, isn’t it?

Aoi—I’m an adult, of course. It’s been 8 years already.

Reita—The playing style changed too, isn’t it?

Uruha—(laughs) Talk about music came forth, finally~

Ruki—Let’s change the way we’re doing this interview, now onwards (laughs)

Uruha—The style, frankly, has turned to metal.

Kai—It has a sort of kick-ass feel to it.

Aoi—If you say that, won’t the people who like metal go and hide themselves in shame? (laughs)

Ruki—Like playing guitars which have such shapes they don’t seem to have a skeleton, but playing such guitars sets a really good mood.

--------You’re adults normally, but you do keep such guitars, isn’t it? Although there haven’t been any changes in your characters as such, your parts have certainly seen some transformations, haven’t they?

Uruha—Just with Ruki having carefully collected experience points, the transformation shows itself on stage, as in, as a vocalist, he was a novice in the past, but at some time, as the Tours went by, he just changed, all of a sudden.

Reita—There is a heightened awareness of things.

Aoi—We also look after our voices.

Reita—True! I never thought this fellow would ever do such a thing, you know (laughs).

Aoi—I do it very thoroughly.

--------And what about Reita?

Reita—I suppose it’s good that I haven’t changed.

Aoi—But, he doesn’t much go in front of the stage anymore.

Kai—Aa, and he’s also stopped doing those weird movements (laughs).

Ruki—He’s turned rather profound.

Aoi—The performance and the feel used to be typically guitar-like. So in the past, there never was an occasion when I felt that I could pose a hindrance too (laughs).

Reita—When we went to Fukuoka for our first One-Man, I got quite a fright from the staff.

Uruha—You did?

Reita—I got told things like, ‘Don’t you think you go to the front a bit too much, despite being the Bassist?’ (laughs).

Uruha—That’s because earlier, you came almost uptil me while doing a front somersault.

Reita—That was because I tumbled on the stage, you know (laughs).

Uruha—Aoi saw that and he was just bent double with laughter (laughs).

--------So the change has been that you have attained a sense of stability regarding your role as a bassist.

Ruki—I have a feeling Uruha was really evil in the past (laughs). There were even times when he’d be reckless enough to go to the extent of saying things like “Wait a little, would you?”.

Uruha—(laughs) Rather than creating an impression, I just go on repeating things quickly, or end up getting too excited over the Live.

Ruki—The twin-guitars are substantially established now.

Kai—There used to be a fair amount of fluctuation in the past, but now things have a more heavy feel to them.

Ruki—I feel that the phrases have changed too. In the past, the guitar phrases sounding like solemn sobs were numerous, but now there are more of the typical solos being played. Each phrase has become more detailed, in a way.

Aoi—Half the fixation I used to have over the sounds is already gone. Aren’t we like, pursuing various types of goals? Not that I know, really (laughs).

-------A display of your enthusiasm.

Aoi—Well, even as a guitarist, it’s a ‘Have I worked this much?’ sort of a thing.

Reita—Kai has started revealing himself, steadily.

Ruki—In the past, he used to say he didn’t want to stand out because he was the drummer. That was because his image would fade because of the GazettE (laughs), but ultimately, I think he wanted to stand out.

Aoi—Talking of which, he used to say he didn’t want to be conspicuous.

Uruha—True, true. While returning from the Lives, when everybody else would be asleep in the car, he’d keep telling me about it, how he was “facing downwards and drumming”.

Kai—(laughs)

Uruha—I wonder why, recently, he keeps on changing his looks and trying out different things.

Ruki—Kai’s look has been sort of ferocious, and at other times it has been like a gentle elder brother, so I’m really looking forward to what it’ll turn out to be hereafter.

--------In that sense, has the style seen the most change?

Aoi—The change is in progress. Isn’t the search still on? (laughs)

Kai—(laughs)

Ruki—Which way will it roll?

Aoi—He even seems to be obsessing over his drum-set.

--------Looking forward to it. Well, before long, the new single, “SHIVER” will be released. Please tell us what sentiment you’re looking to send out through this song. Are you betting upon its success or failure?

Aoi—We felt that the fans must also be sensitive to the fact that this is the work being released at the time when the environment of the GazettE itself is changing. Besides, there was the matter of presenting a clear picture of the band, so when we talked about all of this, we decided to have “SHIVER” as the main song.

--------Does it also have the outlook the band originally held?

Aoi—That’s like a constant, I mean, although recently, there have been many songs which have brought out the core aspects, this one was naturally melodious and aggressive, so we thought it would be nice to release this song now.

--------I suppose you also wanted to once again feel what it’s like to work at a song with a sprinty, pop-ish feel like “SHIVER”.

Aoi—Ah, I think the framework of the song turned out quite mature. We used to make more of a racket in the past.

--------The level of the construction of the song is surely different.

Aoi—I feel I understand now what each one has to express.

Ruki—Had it been even a while back, I think I’d have been somewhat reluctant to release this song as a Single.

--------Why would that be?

Ruki—I wanted to stress upon a heavier and darker aspect than this song. But when we were reviewing things all over again, I thought how it wasn’t important to be so obstinate about it. The song that was made then was “SHIVER”. It’s a straight song, has a sprinty feel to it and immediately conveys a sense of the band.

Reita—Though the environment has changed with the transfer to another recording company, we kept going with the same style as we’ve always had as our foundation, and since nothing has changed and we agreed among ourselves before making it, I think this Single is just right to display the GazettE style once again.

--------It’s a single you’re putting forward with confidence, isn’t it?

Reita—Right. That way, we won’t get perturbed by whatever is spoken about it.

Uruha—Isn’t a single something which should convey “This is the GazettE right now!” at once when you hear it? “SHIVER” was the closest to what image everybody held of us. For example, on the TV, of all the world of material being propagated, doesn’t a part of some catchphrase just hit you at once, by chance? Accordingly, we went for a song which would create an impression instantaneously.

--------A song which would hold them in an instant.

Uruha—That was essential.

Kai—About the matter of winning or losing, it’s something that is there every time, being the way we are, but since the environment around us has seen pragmatic changes, there is also a change of attitude in that sense, then I could see a new sign within me and it was about taking a shot at it.

--------A new sign, as in?

Kai—Well, I can’t say anything specifically yet, I mean, it’s just a feeling one has at the initial stages of having a goal, you know.

--------Is that a new sign? Or was it, in one way or the other, a sign which was already there?

Kai—Hmm, it’s an implicit sign.

--------Though the single this time is pop for the GazettE, it has a characteristically harsh taste, and talking in terms of food, it leaves the tongue feeling quite numb (laughs). It’s thorny, in a way. I hope the people listening to it will feel it too.

Aoi—If the thorns are gone, it’s not rock, you see.

--------Well then, finally, how do you feel the Tour “NAMELESS LIBERTY SIX BULLETS”, marking your first Tour-Commencement at Budoukan, will turn out to be? What have you been specifically planning for?

Ruki—It’s still at the decision-making stage, you know. It’ll still take some time.

Reita—The foundation has been set, though. I think, compared to last time, there is sheer volume present this time.

--------A never-seen-before display?

Ruki—More than never-seen-before, we imagine them to be Lives which will specialize in what we’ve wanted to show all this time. In a way that even the visuals will be deeply moving, and there will be that much more passion in it.

Aoi—Based upon what we’ve been doing all this time, we thought about how we could put forward the polished version now.

Uruha—It’ll be a bad Tour unless each thing is set to its precise form and nothing is left ambiguous, isn’t it? If we don’t constantly keep an eye over every step, we won’t get the results we want. I think it’ll turn out to be that relentless a Tour, you know.

Ruki—As in, ‘How far can we go?’.

Aoi—Because it’s the second Tour designated “NAMELESS~”, you see? It’s time for a bit of a match, for victory and defeat.

--------4 years after that Tour, what does the scene look like?

Aoi—Right. Even that was a Tour of victory and defeat, so let’s not forget those same feelings this time again.

--------Like Kai also said, it’ll be a Tour setting new landmarks.

Aoi—Well, if one generalizes it that way, it’ll turn out to be just that sort of a Tour (laughs).

And this is from Ruki's blog comment!
Credits to Ducky Translation too! ^^

“Ugh.

I got all sorts of mail.
Since the old days, I have always intended to answer all the messages from the fans even if it makes me uneasy, because that’s the way I am.
Well, even though I keep saying this at Lives too.

So, even though what I write henceforth is written keeping in mind only a section of the fans, please go on reading what I have to say.
First of all, about the tie-up with the single.

Since I think the songs cannot be listened to with a good feeling if there are such weird preconceptions about them, I want to say something now.

The first anime tie-up as theGazettE.

I got to hear the story about how we wanted to use an existing song as an opening track.

First of all, this.

What I want everybody to not have any misunderstandings about is the fact that it is not a song made to match an anime.

I have said so a number of times even in interviews and such, I absolutely will not, and cannot make songs or write lyrics in this fashion.

All of you always end up having misunderstandings about this, don’t you?

Though everybody talks about theGazette’s worldview, can one bracket all the songs, from the time of our formation uptil now, under one description?

I really can’t.

That’s because they are all really varied.

There aren’t just HEAVY songs, but also POP ones.

That’s how we like it too, you know.

So we have nothing to do with anime, and it’s just another dimension of music, you see.
We’ll be extremely honoured if this could be taken seriously.
What will it be like when they do combine? It’s also something to look forward to.

Next, there are also people telling us not to turn into a commercial band, but this is a foolish question.

I’m not about to go and make amends to theGazettE from it’s beginnings.

I’m human too, so with age my thoughts change too, and there is a part of me that grows into an adult.

What doesn’t change, what cannot change, is that we will play the music we want to play.

This is the truth.

Whether or not you believe this is up to your discretion.

I’d request the ones who cannot believe this to please study the personalities of all the members from scratch.

Sigh.

I’m not writing this because I want you to agree, but because I want you to understand. Just all of you.

Then again, if the anime fans come to the Lives, then the atmosphere of the Lives…even though there are people they want to watch, it’s just nothing more than the usual bias.
What’ll you do if we too turn up the other way round?

Isn’t this thought also related to the quarrels among fans?

Visual Kei, which continues to be the object of prejudice, can lash out and wreck that narrow-minded outlook with it’s music, but what can one do if the fans themselves are prejudiced against somebody in the same way?

As long as you come to the Lives because you’re fans of the GazettE, anybody is welcome.

It’ll be nice if you could embrace us.

We don’t approach you, you know.

This is what I think.

This is the charm of Visual Kei that I’m in love with.

Visual Kei is life, isn’t it?

Having watched this in hide san’s video, I work at the band with that carved into my heart.

I don’t want to forget the feeling of the time when we were mere band-kids.

That attitude towards fans has not changed.

I just want to keep doing what I want to do now onwards too.

Though this turned out to be such a long and disturbing post, I’ll end now.

Thank you for having read this.
Keep looking forward to a lot of things.”

AOI SOLO INTERVIEW >>

- Are you the type of person who has a lot of friends?
No, I don't think I am.

- Has it always been that way?
Not exactly. I think when I was in school everyone was friends with each other. So basically I just stayed with the crowd. There were three middle schools in my town, but the grade you were in didn't matter, and for the most part neither did the school you went to. Everyone had known each other since they were little, so we all called each other by our first names instead of last names.

- Do you keep in contact with your old school friends now?
There are some that I keep in touch with, but everyone left Mie and are all spread out, so I've lost track of where some live.

- What is your definition of a friend?
A friend is someone who you don't have to be careful around. I always watch and think about what I say, so if I could just be like, "You hungry? I'm gonna go get some food." kinda thing. I think a friend isn't someone you say "Let's be friends" to, but someone who you all of a sudden realize has always been there.

- So are the other members different from friends, then?
A little different. There are times when I'm careful around them, when things are hard to say, and times I wonder what they're thinking. And I don't go "Hey, hey!" kinda thing. I started thinking that maybe if you can talk to someone too easily about anything, it might start affecting our work....Also, I'm too embarrassed to talk with them about a lot of things.

- Then, do you have any friends living close by?
I don't think there's anyone living in Tokyo that I can say is a true friend.

- Isn't that lonely?
It is lonely. But I don't leave my house that often, either. And I can't go out to eat alone. Even during tours I just go to the convenience store....I meet up with my friends whenever I go back to Mie, because when I go back there I want to go out to a bunch of different places. I don't like crowds, and since I am from the country it's hard to get used to Tokyo.

Theme Interview - 2
"Love"

- What are you like when you're in love?
I'm always careful (laugh)

- I think that men and women are careful about different things, so what are you careful about?
Everything (laugh)

- So, are you really kind?
I just get tired. I really don't like doing anything. I love just lazing around the most.

- So do you like girls who aren't that careful?
No? Because I'm careful around everyone. Though I don't know how it would be after being together for 10 or 20 years.

- Are you careful about saying personal things like, "You don't look so well"?
Ahh, I would say that. So much that it would get annoying (laugh)

- Would you like it if a girl payed a lot of attention to you?
Not really. I would want her to hold back on the "Ne, ne!" sort of thing (laugh). In a way I would want a kind of distance, I wouldn't want her to always be concerned about me. Like, to live using her own strength (laugh).

- So an independent girl, then?
Yes. That would be the most comfortable. So not someone who doesn't have a job (laugh).

- Or a part-time job?
I would want her to have a job four days a week (laugh). Since there'd be a lot of times when I'm not there, being together all the time would get tiring. I think someone who is independent, would give me space and have her own opinions about things would be perfect.

- Then, even if she was really strong-willed?
That's perfectly OK. Though always wanting to fight would get annoying (laugh).

- So someone who works a lot?
Well, if it was six days a week that would be hard. Wouldn't it be lonely to never be able to see each other?

- (laugh) You're difficult, huh?
I'm waiting for that person (laugh)

Theme Interview - 3
"Family"

- Please tell us who is in your family.
My father, mother, older sister, older brother, and me.

- Are the ages between you and your siblings very far apart?
They are. My sister is nine years and my brother is six years older.

- What makes you like being the youngest?
I don't really know myself, but it seems like even if my dad gets mad at my brother and sister, he doesn't get very mad at me (laugh). He told me, "At least go to high school.", and I did go, but even when I quit after one term, he didn't say anything to me.

- So you grew up in a loving environment?
I guess so, yes. Because our ages are different, when I entered middle school my sister was already out of the house and my brother had also started living on his own. My dad had gotten a job transfer, so he only came home on the weekends. So it was always just my mother and I.

- Are you closer to your mother, then?
Ahh, I'm not sure about that. I like both my parents.

- Do you think you're a good son?
No, I still don't think I completely am (laugh)

- Do you call them every once in a while?
I do. When our final live was in Tokyo I stayed with them.

- Isn't that being a good son?
Well, whenever I go home there's more food, so I'm like "Yes!" (laugh)

- Does your mom read the magazines you're in?
She does. Our home has gotten pretty amazing. When you walk in it's Gazette. There's posters on the walls, and signatures.

- Then, say something to your mother here.
Mom, thanks for everything (laugh)

----------------------------------

- In what way do you think the fans see you?
Eh? Well, I think I'm different than how they picture me. They think I'm really serious....

- Too serious?
Yes, yes. They might have the image that when I'm making music I don't move from my PC. That's not true (laugh).

- That's different from reality?
Totally different (laugh). It's probably because I never talk about anything else during interviews. It seems like I'm always making songs.

- So, actually?
I am in front of the computer a lot, but I take a break about once every hour (laugh). I have bad concentration. I work really hard for a while, then it's time to drink coffee or something.

- I understand. You want to rest as soon as possible.
When you're resting all the time, the day goes by fast (laugh). And I can't get anything done unless it's right before the deadline. That hasn't changed from when I had to do homework over the summer.

- So you were really rushed around the 30th or 31st of August, huh?
Yes, I was. I'm always saying how I stay up all night a lot, but it's always because of that last stretch. I'm in the middle of making songs now, but I can't get the engine running. So I'll just think about it for a while.

- Really?
All I do is space out while watching TV, though (laugh). I can't do anything unless the image I have has taken shape. I hate trying to make something without thinking, when it isn't consistent. It really irritates me if even one part doesn't sound good.

- That might go along with that serious image. Do you have a way of relaxing at home?
Whenever I'm not at my computer (laugh). Before I had my living area as a working space, but when I turned around I could see the bath, so there would always be that temptation. So now I have all of my equipment in the most boring looking room next to the entrance.

- The bath is a temptation?
Baths are the best. Isn't it refreshing? I like that, but most of the time after a bath I drink down a beer. Then the only thing to do is sleep. But, a lot of my songs get started while I'm taking a bath.

- That must be a great place, then.
It is, but there are dangers to it, so it's a double-edged sword. Though it is while I'm taking a bath that I'm the most high-spirited.

- High-spirited...
My brain is, anyway. It's not like I'm dancing in the bathtub. I just replay really exciting lives in my head. Of course starting with the new songs.

- I see. So you have that listlesness and a unique feeling that past rock musicians had, huh?
I'm half-hearted? (laugh)

- No, no, not like that. For instance, how you learned guitar from your brother.
Yes, I did. When my brother was at his most rebellious in high school, he played guitar in a band. It seemed fun, and I wanted to join in, but I was chased out (laugh). In return, he gave me a guitar and a book of chords and lyrics and was like "Here, I'll lend you these so practice downstairs" (laugh). Then I started practicing in about middle school.

- What kind of songs did you practice?
I practiced chords of X [Japan]. But it was a classic guitar, so it wasn't rock at all (laugh). Then when my brother graduated high school I asked him for a guitar, and even though it was my first electric guitar, it was broken.

- It wouldn't play when you plugged in into an amp?
I had my dad take me to get a small amp. I bought it with the money I had saved from New Year's gifts. When I brought it home and it wouldn't play, I just started crying.

- (laugh) You were shocked
But from the end of elementary school to my third year of middle school I had a newspaper delivery route, so I bought my own electric guitar in middle school. I was like, "This is the best!", and I was so into it I would even sleep holding the guitar. But I was so busy during that time, I would wake up, deliver papers, go to school, and since I was in the baseball club I would go to that after school, then at night play the guitar, then go to sleep. So I didn't have time to do homework.

- You just didn't have the energy, huh.
No, I didn't. Kids are busy (laugh). But after I quit high school I didn't play the guitar. I wanted to become a pro, but my brother told me that reality was hard, so my dream was sort of broken. Actually, my brother really loved music, but he ended up just getting a normal job, so I thought that was just how it went.

- You thought you'd take a different route, then?
After being lazy for a while, the brother of the girl I was going out with was a surfer.

- (laugh) Another brother, huh.
Yes. I can't do anything without other people's help (laugh). Then, when I tried it I thought it was really fun. Most of the time when you first get on the board you can't stand on it, but I was able to stand up from the start, so I thought I had the talent for it.

- Like, "Okay, I'm going to be a pro surfer!"
I did aim for that. The thought of being a pro just sounded really cool. Baseball players, too.

- Did you want a job where you could be in the spotlight?
Kind of like that (laugh). Then, I entered in a surfing contest. So the first magazine I was ever in was a surfing magazine (laugh).

- About how long did you do that?
Maybe two or three years. At that time I had plenty of physical strength, so I would go to the beach in the morning, take a nap in the afternoon, go back to the beach in the evening, then go to work at night.

- Busy as always.
I was busy. I was living like that, but one day when I was watching TV in the middle of the night, there was an indies band on. I thought, "I could be better than them", then while mistakenly thinking that sort of thing I was eventually like, "I'm going to Tokyo". (laugh)

- But you weren't in a band, right?
No. I figured if I went to Tokyo, something would happen. I went and told my parents that day. But I couldn't quit work that fast, so I worked for about a month, then was like, "See you". During that month I practiced the guitar as much as I could.

- Pretty reckless, huh?
It was reckless. Even I thought I was being stupid (laugh). Like, "Don't get the wrong idea".

- No, but that's important.
It's fine now that it's turned out like this, but if it hadn't then I'd just be an idiot (laugh). I did get to Tokyo, but I had no money or a place to stay. I was thinking that I'd just get another paper route and live at their place, but someone I knew asked if I wanted to be introduced to their sister and her husband living in Tokyo. I was like, "You don't even have to ask" (laugh). Then I was able to find a job, and while I was doing that I formed a band, and it was with the former drummer of Gazette.

- That kind of seems like a rock musician sort of lifestyle.
Well, when I think about it now the parents who let that sort of kid go to Tokyo rocked the most (laugh). They gave me money for a ticket back home, but they probably thought I would come home pretty soon. Then after 7 or 8 years, I'm where I am now (laugh).

- So what does the brother who taught you to play guitar think about you being in a successful band?
He didn't say anything at first. But his wife showed me some videos she secretly took, and he's been copying Gazette's songs (laugh).

- (laugh) The places have been switched.
And he's really good. He might be a little better than me (laugh).

- Hahaha. So, what do you think the members think of you?
I wonder. I don't really want to ask, and part of me doesn't want to know. I don't want them to think of me badly.

- (laugh) But you're always careful, so don't you think about that kind of thing?
I often do (laugh). For some reason, Uruha has been kind of distant to me lately. I don't know if it's because I'm older or because we both play guitar or what. Of course, when we're working we talk a lot. But normally we don't. That sort of bothers me (laugh).

- A strange feeling of distance?
Yes, does it have to do with our group photos? (laugh). But I guess he's within reachable distance. Before, we would often share the same hotel room, so we would have conversations like, "How do you want this to sound?" kind of thing. But now we stay in different rooms, and I don't talk to him as much as to everyone else. I'm lonely (laugh).

- Why can't you just talk to him?
There's nothing to talk about (laugh). And he always looks like he's having fun talking with everyone else. I'm thinking, "That's not fair" (laugh). A while ago, even though I was embarrassed I called him and asked how to work the digital cable. Then he was like, "You should just ask the electrician." (laugh)

- You look embarrassed
I'm not gay or anything (laugh).

- (laugh) I didn't ask that.
Well anyway, the person in Gazette who is on my mind the most is probably Uruha.

- But when you're talking you seem kind of shy. Like you don't want to be taken too seriously.
Shy has a good ring to it (laugh). I think all the members get embarrassed easily. When we're working we'll share opinions, get angry, and say whatever we want, but other than that we can't even say, "Let's go get some dinner". Wouldn't it be a shock if they refused? (laugh). So I invite the manager a lot, but when he refuses it makes me mad (laugh). Like, "You don't have the right to refuse" (laugh). But I really do want to go get dinner and talk with everyone. So I guess I'm just embarrassed?

- Then you end up on your own?
Yeah. I actually might not like being alone so much. Maybe it's just that it always ends up that way (laugh). Am I lonely?! I guess when this magazine comes out I'll buy it at the bookstore and secretly deliver it to the members' houses (laugh).

- (laugh) Got it. Lastly, Gazette is in the middle of working on something new, right?
We're completely focusing on it. Our last single, "Guren", was made while we were on tour, but this time we're in an environment that we can concentrate in, and some powerful songs are coming along. Not as far as the melody goes, though.

- Is the power you recieved from the tour reflecting in the songs?
There is that, but right now the band is in a really aggressive mode. We're getting sharp, and if you're not careful we might knock you off your feet, kinda thing. Like, it might not be a good idea to underestimate us. We're all heated up at the moment. So if this turns out to be a complete ballad, I'm sorry (laugh).

- Hahahaha
But I'm really looking forward to it. We're putting all of our energy into making this. Because of that everyone is getting stoic, and when we clash in the studio, it might get intense. Anyway, I plan on going at it with intensity.

- Even though you're normally careful
I can't be careful like that when we're making things. I think when it comes to music, once you give in it's over.

- So you also get a lot of feedback about the songs and phrases you come up with?
When I'm making something basic I'll take in opinions, but when I've advanced past that I present it like, "This song is like this, with this kind of feeling." Though especially with Uruha I get nervous. So if he tells me "This is pretty good", I'll do a little "Yes!" pose in my heart (laugh).

- And you also have a live on August 23rd at Fujikyu Highland Conifer Forest
That's right. Since it's our first outdoor live in two years, we want to make it like a festival. Because last time at Tokyo Big Sight we had fireworks and food stands up. This time at Fujikyu we're going to have a live with different scenery and we're looking forward to it, so you guys are too, right? Like that.

- Then, I think you should hurry and finish your homework.
I guess so. If I don't keep doing it until the 30th, I won't be able to do it because of the effects of the live (laugh).

UUUWAAATT? LOL...

Wow! Here's what I think. Although Aoi sounds gay when he mentioned about Uruha and their closeness when it comes to work, that's completely normal to the Japanese. More like "buddy" than gay whatsoever.

"Well anyway, the person in Gazette who is on my mind the most is probably Uruha."

In my opinion, Aoi can relate more with Uruha because both of them write songs and at the same time they practice the same craft (they're guitarists in the band and they must work harmoniously). Shall we say, both of them understand each others feelings and thoughts as a GUITARIST.

REAL READ 001: Ruki Interview
"…" = Quotes and thoughts
(…) = References
[…] = My notes

Ruki-san, when you were little, were you a DISORDER kind of child?
R: When I was little, I was a POP kid but my father always yelled at me. If I did anything rebellious, my parents would have beaten me. I always thought that they were frightening.

It's rare in this generation where strict fathers still exist.
R: Other than the impression of my parents being scary, there is nothing else. My father was strict. My mother was strict.

But were you a naughty kid?
R: At the time, I didn't think so but I was a noisy child. I had a brother who was older than me by nine years. I had all his hand-me-downs. Other kids' parents would buy them new bicycles or something like that but I can only use my brother's old stuff. It was unbearable. During that time, a Nintendo console was popular, but my parents would not get it for me.

Why are they so strict?
R: I also ask myself the same question: "Why? Is it only me?" When I see my friends with their new things, I tell my parents "x-kun or y-kun has this or that." But I end up getting yelled at for asking such questions. So even now I hate that Nintendo console.

With such a scary parents, no, family, shouldn't you have became a better child?
R: At home, I was a good kid. But outside of the home, that's where I'll be bad. If my parents found out that I was bad outside of home, they would still scold me.

Under your parents' strict rules, what was something that you really wanted to be for yourself?
R: Recently, I read over my elementary graduation memory book and even then I wrote that "I want to be a manga artist" and I really loved drawing.

Then did you ever taking any art lessons?
R: I had other courses such as calligraphy, math and swimming at a prep school. My parents wanted to raise a good kid.

But in elementary school, a lot of children went to prep schools (tutoring schools)?
R: None of my friends or schoolmates had to go to those classes. So going to those classes after school is definitely annoying. By the time I get home, I still have a lot to do [homework] so I hated it. Then I started skipping. Of course by doing that I get punished. Especially during the summer vacation, everybody is outside having fun, but since I'm always rebellious, I was always grounded and had to stay at home.

By 'rebellious,' can you explain what you did?
R: I didn't go to those prep classes so my grades dropped. So I get grounded but I didn't even want to go to prep school so it kind of like I choose to stay at home. When my parents are at home, they kept me under strict surveillance. When I am supposed to be studying at home, I always had a manga in my drawer. When my parents would be around, I hide it. Since then, I used those tricks to get away from studying (laughs).

By what you are saying, prep school was a torturous place to be at?
R: Prep school was not normal because there were other bad kids. So not listening to what the teacher is saying is normal. I always just brought my manga with me to read there.

During the summer vacations, what did you do at home?
R: In the morning is when my parents are at work that is when I am most free. Before the afternoon, I watch a lot of anime and special summer TV programs. But before my parents return home, I must finish doing homework. My parents had the homework answers hidden so I had to look for them and copy the answers. Sometimes I tried to do the homework by myself without the answer key but usually almost everyday I copy answers directly off the answer sheets.

During that age, what was music to you?
R: My brother liked X Japan. But if I listened to them, my parents would yell at me. The reason is because the CD my brother had was from their indies era "VANISHING VISION"; the cover art was very erotic. Doesn't that excite a child's heart? Because of that I secretly sneak into my brother's room and listen to it. I was in the 4th grade at that time.

So you listened to a lot of music because of your brother?
R: Because my brother liked metal so he would listen to Helloween (German band) and Guns N' Roses (American band). Horror movies were popular at that time and they would use that kind of heavy music for the movies so that's why he would listen to them.

Ruki-san, did this influence your interest in horror now?
R: As of horror stuff, I was influenced during that age. The movie that made the biggest impact on me was "Child's Play." I used to sneak out to watch this at the middle of the night. I made the room was extremely dark and I had to listen through headphones.

Is it because your parents were so strict that you find ways to be rebellious?
R: They tell me that I can't watch TV, so I'll watch in the middle of the night in the living room with headphones on. From that on, I was a night person. Since then I still love horror movies and hate that Nintendo console. Also because Terminator was popular then the guns and knives were popular also. So I would go to these military shops and buy gas guns and knives or war goggles (laughs).

How did you get that money to buy such things?
R: Well…there are a lot of cases where after they find out, they would yell at me because I cannot directly tell them that I'm using the money to buy weapons. So I tell I need money to buy snacks. Up until now, I still have not told them about this; this is the first time I've talked publicly about this. Anyway, that knife was a huge one like Rambo's.

Such dangerous things, why would employees at these shops sell this to elementary school children?
R: Yeah, that shop is very strange. The employee was an otaku who had a headband over his forehead. He, nonchalantly, sold these products to little kids like it's normal.

Did you go to adult shops?
R: At that time, I wasn't exposed much to eroticism. But I liked dangerous things. Even when watching horror movies, I pick the most gory and violent ones. The girl I went with to buy the guns and knives grow up in a foreign country. She bought the Terminator model bb gun called Gatling gun. Then I used to play fake war games. When playing with that girl, whoever had her as an enemy sucked because I cannot escape the fast bullets; I used the RoboCop gun to defend myself.

Did you like to play different things from your peers and classmates?
R: At that time, everybody played that Nintendo console but my friend and I liked Terminator, First Blood, Rambo and Robocop. We really were really interested in those movies. As of horror movies, Friday the 13th was not bad. My friend would like to watch snuff films so we always went together.
[Translator's Note: A snuff film is a movie of the actual death or murder of a person or people. WIKIPEDIA]

From then on, you started liking this kind of entertainment?
R: Yes, and same for my friends. There are a lot of people who like the same.

Were you an outstanding student?
R: Even though I think I was but there were anti-social students and scary students. There were a lot of people with character, so I didn't think I was outstanding.

By the time you were in junior high school, did you hang out with difference people with different interests?
R: My impression of people in junior high school was half-hearted. Aren't there a lot junior high school students starting to get curious about sex? But my parents didn't even let me go to that stage of thinking of sex. When I entered junior high school, they became stricter than ever before.

Just asking, when was your first love?
R: I'm not sure if this is considered first love. When I was a first year student in junior high school, a third year student confessed to me. To add to that, she was a yankee (gangster) and was the leader of her gang. Afterwards, I found out that she has a habit of inhaling paint thinner [Ruki means that she's a junkie]. A lot of people knew about this but I didn't…But I never had that kind of feelings for her.

Doesn't it feel great for someone to confess to you?
R: I was pretty indifferent about it. I don't even know what kind of circumstances that we would be together. That girl would give me accessories for gifts.

Did you ever date her?
R: No, we only walked home together. On the way home, we just talk a lot.

In school, were there ever rumors of you and that girl?
R: In the beginning, I didn't tell people about this. After people found out, a female senpai warned me that the girl (who confessed) "is bad and that I shouldn't be around her." Before the girl (who confessed) already had a boyfriend, so she's dating two people at the same time. So the first boyfriend is closely watching her and he is a scary guy and since he's about to graduate their relationship has faded.

Because you're like that, is that why you are interested in everything about a girl?
R: This is when I started thinking about sex. At first, I got excited when I picked a dirty magazine on the road. Then I found out that my brother had a locked drawer and I secretly found the key. Upon opening, I found S&M magazines. "Ara!" This is too extreme (laughs).
[Translator's Note: In the Chinese translation, the text was "Aiya!" so I believe the Japanese equivalent is "Ara"]

So your heart was beating like hell.

R: At that moment of looking at the magazine, I was stunned. And my heart was beating like crazy and I was excited. But I think everybody would have had the same reaction. I always go to my friend's house and ask his brother for this kind of magazines. And I have learned a lot.

Other than girls, what other things were you interested in?
R: Dying my hair. In the beginning not a lot of people dyed their hair. But once my friend dyed his hair, I did the same. I, gradually, made my hair lighter time after time, and that's how my parents found out.

Even though most student dye their hair during the summer, but you are from a strict household, did your parents let you?
R: Of course not. It doesn't matter if it's summer vacation or whatever. Everything besides the rule is not permitted. I also had a curfew. In the summer, coming home around 7 when the sun is still up is fine. But during the winter, going home after 5 is not okay. Besides my father gets home at 5.

So you ate dinner at home?
R: Absolutely. If not, I would have gotten scolded at.

So it was hard to go out during the night whenever you want to.
R: During junior high school, sneaking out of the house was impossible.

Did you go to prep school during that time?
R: I was forced to go but once I stole the tuition money. Because I took the tuition money, I didn't go to prep school. The reason I stole the money is because at that time I just started to smoke and I used that money to buy cigarettes. Besides that, arcades were popular at that time, so I needed money for that too.

When you came home with cigarette stench on your clothes, didn't your parents notice?
R: I didn't smoke too much back then so my parents didn't notice and I smoked inside the temple near my school. A lot of people like to gather there to smoke together. Until now, I still remember the image of the first time I smoked there.

Were there any girls among that group?
R: There were only boys. At that time, smoking like that, we just want to be view as bad boys.

In junior high school, what activity in band did you do?
R: The first band I was in, I was a third year student in junior high school. I listened to WANDS (Japanese rock band), T-BOLAN (Japanese rock band), and BAAD (Japanese rock band). I also liked anime theme songs, X-JAPAN, hide's solo work, LUNA SEA and other visual bands. But my biggest influence was the SEX PISTOL. Back then, when I listened to them, it was a big impact. During my third year in junior high school's graduation picnic, we had to perform at the lodgings, that's why I started playing in bands.

Why did you play the drums at first?
R: I lost at rock, papers, scissors, "So, I'll play drums." In the practice room, I thought that I did pretty well on drums, so I continued. The songs we practiced were Sex Pistol's "Bodies" "God save the Queen," Luna Sea's "Rosier," and Yellow Monkey's "Love Love Show." The reaction we got was pretty good. After the show, we got back to the room; I had that "I was kind of amazing!" feeling. I don't know why but I had that hero kind of aura. From then on, I was obsessed with playing the drums.

Did girls pay special attention to your band?
R: I can only say that they will get to know you from scratch. That's it. But "to be in a band just to get famous or attention" is not what I was thinking. The reason I said that is because only people who played basketball or other sport would get popular. So being in a band wouldn't even be considered as being popular.

Besides that time during your first year in junior high school, did you ever date?
R: When I was a third year student, I hung out with a girl once. Actually, that might be my first love. It was a very light feeling that I liked.

Did you confess to the girl?
R: She confessed to me. I definitely would not confess to a girl. I would rather somebody else confess to me. Up to this day, I have never confessed to anybody. It's something that cannot be said.

So a girl should confess to a boy?
R: If the girl confesses to me, then I feel like I can control the girl. On the other hand, if I'm the one who confesses, then I lost to her. It also feels like I am under her leash. It's unbearable if she ever dumps me or maybe because my self-esteem is very high because I hate to be dumped. I want to be the one who dumps the other person.

What was your view of love (dating) back then?
R: It wasn't really real dating. It was awkward to tell my friends that this is my girlfriend. So-called dating is usually in school or walking home from school. On the way home, we would have ice cream or such. But afterwards, my friends would find out.

Because you have a girlfriend, do you have the feeling that you were better than others?
R: Exactly that. Most trendy people would try to find the deep meaning of love but I have never gone that far.

So holding hands was hard then?
R: Yes, I was very pure then that I didn't have my first kiss until before graduation. I used to think, "What are we going to do after graduation." Then I said "Ara~, we're going to different high schools so we cannot be together." Then my girlfriend started crying and my dating with her ended there.

In your songs, there are mentions of abused women. Does this relate to your experience?
R: Past painful experience I reflect it into my lyrics. But it doesn’t mean that it was me who got hurt; but it was how I hurt somebody else. Something like the images of my ex-girlfriend crying I have seen a couple of times.

Did you purposely make that girl cry?
R: If you don't cry then you don't care. So I will purposely say something to make her cry. Very sneaky, isn't it? Then I will comfort her. I felt like I am manipulating her with candies and whips.

Amazing! The other face of pureness is so evil!
R: When I date, I only date one person. I would not cheat.

Your parents never found out about you dating and the bad things you did?
R: At that time, I dyed my hair green. At home, I used black hair spray to cover it up. In the morning, at the park before I went to school, I would wash the black spray off. But once, I accidentally left the black spray out for too long and it turned brown. And I thought I was screwed! I immediately bought a black hair dye but it won't turn black. So then my parents found out something was wrong and they said, "Let me look at your hair." When they saw the brown, they immediately took scissors and GACHA… cut off my hair…it was outrageous.

So you entered high school and you continued to go to school?
R: Actually I took entrance exams and I still loved drawing. At first I wanted to go to an art high school because I wanted to be a sculptor in the future. So I picked a high school what specialized in art. But on the application due date, I forgot mail the application out, so I didn't get in. In the end, I went to a lower rank high school.
[Translator's Note: Ruki actually ridicules the school but I couldn't really find a way to translate it into English]

You wanted to be a sculptor? How amazing!
R: Because I liked to carve that's why I wanted to be a sculptor. Of course, I never told my parents that; I just told them that I wanted to be a designer. Then there was only one art school left that was on the news for being famous. When I told my friends about this, their reactions were "Isn't that a form punishment?" "Is it that bad?" I didn't really think it was a big deal at that time. But when I went to visit the school, I saw the people with gangster hairstyles then I thought "Oh no, I picked the wrong school" that's it.

In high school, did something happen everyday?
R: From the beginning, it was bad. A lot of people dyed their hair once school started. A lot of teachers were former delinquents and gangster-like. They looked like they were going to fight any minute. Because of that, not long before school started, something violent happened.

Something violent happened?
R: We were outside eating lunch. We heard a female scream; I thought, "What happen?" Then I went over. I saw a male student with glasses, who looked weak, holding two butterfly knives. He was always bullied and everybody looked down at him so he brought the knives to get revenge on those people. After seeing that, "This school is totally ridiculous." Everyday something like this would happen.

Then it was a bad school
R: It was really bad. There was no academic feeling in that school at all. Even though my class was an art class, but nobody gets a job in this field after graduating. Extremely a lot of people dropped out. At first there was 30 people. I dropped out during the summer of my third year in high school. The graduating class had less than 10 people. Even though, a lot of people said, "Why didn't you stay until graduation?" But I didn't want to and there was no meaning of continuing.

How was your love life back then?
R: My friend introduced me to a girl when I was a freshman and I liked her.

Even though you liked her, she confessed to you?
R: Yes.

So your first real band was in high school?
R: In class, I liked drawing skeletons. The guy who sat next to me liked to draw the guys from KISS (American band). Then I thought, "Oh, this guy likes rock?" Then I started talking to him and we became good friends. We always talked about music. At that time, we were obsessed with a hardcore band (a branch from punk rock) called NUNCHUCK (ヌンチャク: Japanese band). So we started our first band named "Kusarigama." [鎖鎌 the literal meaning is a chain-sickle; so I guess they named themselves after a weapon from the influence of NUNCHUCK] Of course, we had spiked hair and had facial hair. We ripped up our clothes and put it back together with safety pins.

But when your parents saw that their son was doing that with reconstructioned clothes and facial hair, don't they start preaching?
R: Of course, they did. But at that time, we thought that dyed hair was necessary to be in a band. Obviously, I didn't tell my parents that I was in a band.

So you act differently at home?
R: Yes, I went into the train station's restroom to fix my hair before I went to school. In the station, I got caught smoking and I got suspended from school. After I dropped out, my friends did the same because after summer vacation; we were all too lazy to go back to school.

How did you tell you parents that you dropped out of school? They must be very mad.
R: This is why I ran away from home. From then on, I concentrated on music and the band.

How did that begin?
R: After the band disbanded, my friend asked me to join his band as the drummer. That friend told me that they were a Visual band and that they wear makeup during lives. That time my hair was short and I had facial hair so "It should be no problem." But after one live, I was totally addicted to it. Since then I shaved off my facial hair and my eyebrows and I let my hair grow long.

What made you so fascinated with Visual music?
R: The biggest impact was the makeup. Makeup brings out many different appeals out of a person. Then I was only infatuated with the world of Visual Kei, but I didn't concentrate on the band itself. Afterward, that band added a backup guitarist. I started to get to know him and told him, "Let's make a new band and leave this one." From then on, I started getting serious and started finding new members. Once I went to Yokohama to see a friend's live and found a really good vocalist. At that time, most bands were cover bands and we wanted to make something original so we called that vocalist and asked if he wants to be in our band. And he agreed and he brought along a guitarist and bassist. We formed a band called "Mikoto" (魅琴).

So that was your first original band? [Translator's note: By original, it means that they made their own music and not by covering other bands' songs]
R: Yes, Mikoto was a band where our makeup was white and extreme and this is called Visual Kei. Also we wore funeral clothes. I took those clothes from home and…of course, my parents yelled at me.

Did you set up a lot of strategies for this band?
R: The concept for this band was peace. In order to create this atmosphere, we did a lot of things. We put special effects on our song "Nennenkororiyo" (ねんねんころりよ). During the live, we made it look like a funeral. Every band members had to wear the funeral clothes and held chrysanthemums.
[Translator's note: In Asian society, chrysanthemums are flowers that symbolize death and are used for funerals.]

Was that band popular?
R: It wasn't bad; every time we had a live there were a lot of people in the audience. "This is kinda of like a major band!" Now that I think about it, it was a lot of people. (laughs)

Why did you break up in the end?
R: There was a band we used to play with in a livehouse in Yokohama, in which Uruha and Reita used to be in, and their name was "Karasu" (鴉). I always thought those two were really cool. The vocalist from my band wanted those two to join us and together make an even better band. That's why Mikoto broke up. We had our last live at a horseracing stadium called Eria.
Did you feel touched and cry?
R: Of course, because this was my first real band so I cried. During our last live, there was a lot of people. When we broke up, I had the "this is sad" kind of feeling. When Uruha and Reita saw this, they thought, "Is this okay?" they were worried about my band breaking up. After we broke up, the new band was called "MADIE KUSSE."

So all three of you always hang out together?
R: It was myself, the vocalist of Mikoto, the guitarist, Uruha and Reita; us five started MADIE KUSSE. Our makeup was extreme and weird. Even though in the beginning there were a lot of people at the lives. During a performance, we put a freshly decapitated bird inside a birdcage. I used the concept of a "leaf person" (葉っぱ人間) and I used leaves to decorate my drum set and my head. And I was the 'girl' of the band (referring to his appearance). So I don't know if that's the reason but less and less people attended our shows. Then it decreased to 10 people. As time went by, there was only a couple of fans left.

What did you expect?
R: Since our members were great, I thought our band would be popular. This way of thinking is correct, isn't it? But in reality, it was the opposite. The number of people who came to our lives kept decreasing. So we changed our music style to something weirder. The number of people increased after that.

At that time, what were your feelings on music?
R: The style of music we played before, nobody really liked so we changed it. We changed the style that would fit something like the Gazette's "Back Drop Junkie [Nancy]" I composed this song. During the process of making this song, we thought it was great. After composing, we decided it was really cool. So it was a good change. From then on, that was the style of music we played. Our makeup and clothes gradually changed also: stranger and stranger. And then we changed our visual to be a medical theme.

But medical theme is pretty cool
R: We had to wear nurse outfits and we had to wear them casually.

But MADIE KUSSE also had to break up?
R: Yes. The reason was because me, Uruha and Reita always thought, "We could keep doing it." But the other two thought, "This is not what I want." Because of that our musical directions differed. Since then on our relationship was getting worst. And then "Let's break up." The new band was called, "Kar+te=zyAnose" It was still a medical themed concept. During lives, we had the "there is first surgery in xx hospital" feel. It was quite popular. As for our clothes, everybody went to Hands (ハンズ) and bought plastic pipes and went home to reconstruct them.
[Translator's Note: Hands/Hanzu: http://www.tokyu-hands.co.jp/ I believe it is a DIY/craft/hardware store]

That's a strange feel
R: Yes, it was pretty strange because we used a lot of fake blood.

The songs the band made, were they emotional songs?
R: Yeah, that's right. I was still the drummer at the time. Besides the vocalist, we had a new guitarist. We were all friends previously. But in the end, our ideas were different. Then Uruha suggested that I become the vocalist. I used a song and replaced it with my voice and Uruha said, "Not bad." Actually I too thought it wasn't that bad and I also wanted to be the vocalist. Previously at a couple of events, I played the part of the vocalist. The feeling of being in the center of the stage was really overwhelming. I can have the attention of the whole crowd. And it was totally different from playing drums because the drummer is always in the back and nobody can see me.

During the Kar+te=zyAnose era, did Ruki-san write all the songs?
R: Uruha and Reita composed the music, but this band was only active for three months and was disbanded. The moment I decided to be a vocalist, I told the other members, "Let's break up." We had our last live; at that time the people who attended jokingly asked, "How many times are you going to break up?" Our band members, with a laugh, replied with, "Yeah, we're breaking up." At the same time, I didn't have the passion to make a band. After Kar+te=zyAnose broke up, Reita, me and Uruha asked ourselves, "What about other members." We met a drummer during that time and he was pretty good and asked him, "Come join us~" In addition, we've saw Aoi-kun in a band and was the best player there. So we said, "Let him join too~" After Aoi-kun joined, the GazettE was born.

Ohhh, so that was the process.
R: Yes! "This is my last band!" "If this doesn't work, then I will never be in a band again!" That was a promise to myself.

What was the feedback for the GazettE?
R: If even the GazettE didn't get popular and nobody came to our shows, we have no way to continue so I gave myself a deadline "If after a year, there isn't any results, then we quit. We will use this attitude to continue!" Then we found an agency and we came out with a CD.

Did you have any strategy?
R: We left it all to the agency to take care of. We thought that it would be the best selling CD. Back then, the sad thing was that people liked pop and trendy music, so we didn't have many fans and our CD sales were low.

But there were supporters, right?
R: We handed out a lot of fliers but there were only twenty people attending our shows. By that time, I thought people would have known our band, but surprisingly "it didn't work." Everybody started having negative thoughts and the audience started decreasing again. The smallest audience we had was six people. At that time, we all thought, "Time to quit." Everybody was depressed. Then we came up with the idea of putting out a single "Wakaremichi" but there was not much feedback. We had a free one-man at Kagurazaka Dimension and there were a lot of people. And I thought, "This is it." The next live there were even more people but then it decreased again. Then we put out a new single, the response was better. The audience started to grow; we had thirty people. "Oh, we're selling!" Then I thought maybe that thirty people were our maximum (laughs). Then we held lives all around Japan. Because we did not advertise, nobody came to see us.

Did you think about giving up on the band?
R: I didn't give up on the band, but instead "wanted to give up on this agency." But at the same time, we trusted the agency. And we were going to release our third single because we recording a really cool song so "there should be no problem." But we didn't even publish that single. We made PVs for 3 songs and we signed a lot of posters…so how come there were no sales? The number of audience decreased again. Even though we had a one-man at Eria, our spirits were down. At that time, we thought, "No matter how hard we try, it will never work."

Back then, did you work hard to compose music?
R: Musically, I was really confident. After the one-man, we couldn't release the CD. When Yougenkyou moon (妖幻鏡moon)invited us to do a song, our supporters increased slightly. Suddenly the drummer said, "I'm quitting." And the rest of us thought, "What?!"

Since people were getting to know the band, shouldn't you stick together and keep going? During the first year you kept facing obstacles.
R: We had a tour in many places and the money was from our own pockets. We had to borrow an extremely huge amount of money. We had to sleep in the car and sometimes we couldn't even take showers. But even so, we still have to have shows. As we rode to the next city for the next show, we had to keep borrowing money. It was pretty bad for us then.

Even then, you didn't want to give up?
R: Actually, it was really fun because I got a lot closer with my bandmates and our relationship was strong. But even though I didn't say anything, I know everyone was really tired. We didn't really have an incentive.

Before Kai-kun joined and before the band joined PS Company, how was the situation?
R: The situation was horrible. But at the time Kai joined up, "I don't think it'll get any worst and we need to climb up." With this mindset, it gave us motivation and strength. Our music style started to change into what the GazettE is now. "This manliness is cool." Then we gave up trendy outfits and painted my lips black. Visually, we started to find our direction. So things started getting better.

Joining PS Company was…
R: Actually before leaving our previous agency, whatever we did had failed. We lost all our self-confidence. So PS Company picked us up…if not, I don't know if I'd be in a band now. The CD that we did not publish, we remixed it and added new songs so we can finally release it.

You've continued until now
R: Ah, let me change the topic. At that time, I actually wanted to return home. Before I left for a week, my parents called me on the phone and said, "We're disowning you." So after they told me this, I was shocked and thought, "Really?!" In the middle of the night, I went back home and found that my room was a mess. Then I thought, "I really have no choice." So I packed my things and left home for real.

Around what time did this happen?
R: It was between the time when the GazettE was formed and when we joined PS Company. At that time, we had the least amount of supporters. But I was thinking, "There must be a way." So in the end, I packed my things to leave. Though my mother was crying.

But now, your parents come to see the GazettE's lives
R: It's only recently that they have been attending our lives. I never contacted them but it seems like the agency send things like our music and posters to my home. But my parent still did not approve of our music. "Okuribi" was a song about sending a deceased person's bones to a different world. In response to the song, my father said it was "bullshit" ("クソだ"). I retorted back with "You don't even understand." When fighting with him, my father would say things like, "When people actually listen to your music, then you come back and tell me that I don't understand." Words like that can really hurt a person. In addition to that he also said, "You're only writing what's inside of you" or "Your music is too depressing" things like that. I always thought that "If you don't like it, don't listen to it." It means that he does actually listen to my music but he just wants to pick a fight. Until recently, he started to support the band. Our relationship started to become a bit better when my mother called our manager and asked him to give me the phone. "Oh shit, I'm going to get yelled at again." But she asked, "How have you been recently?" After hearing that, I was really happy. And she also said that my father was also worried about me.

When was the first time they saw your live?
R: This year's January 16th at Shibuya AX. Finally they accepted my music but they still are very strict. Even now we have a lot of fans, they still say, "You're still too far away." [Referring to their level of music] Even though I won't fight back now, I still hang my head low around my parents.

Do they always come together to see your live?
R: Yes, they always come. They went to the Hibiya Yaon live and they came earlier than the band members. Now they support us wholeheartedly. There's a feeling of "such a parent thing to do." Even the CDs, it seems like they listen to it everyday. "They're all sold out a while ago" "When we went to the bookstore, we saw some people reading a magazine with the GazettE in it." Things like that they will tell me. They changed from super non supportive to supportive. Hearing this makes me regret all the rebellious things I did when I was young. Back when I was a child, I thought that to get what I want, I always had to rebel.

Do you think little pieces of the past relate to the GazettE?
R: I try my best to use my own language to express even though unknown places are all connected. All our past failures remain in our hearts and all that reflect on the GazettE.

What are your feelings towards your parents now?
R: After seeing the Hibiya Yaon live, my parents looked touched and cried. Hearing that, I thought, "What great parents."

Do you feel like you have to be better than your father?
R: Before my father dies, I want to improve and better myself. So I can say that, "I am a good son." Hopefully I can be good to them. I always hear that when you earn money you should buy a house for your parents. In the beginning I didn't understand, I thought, "Why? Shouldn't I buy one for myself one first?" After my relationship with my parents improved, I don't want to buy just a house for them, I also want to buy them a car. When they grow old, I want to be able to take care of them. Especially recently, I always think this way.

New. SHOXX November 2010. Aoi's interview.

----First of all, we would like to hear about "NAMELESS LIBERTY SIX BULLETS - 01" this time. What meaning did the first half of this Long Tour hold for you?

~~Well, I just think it was a good Tour, as usual. Actually, having completely switched over to recording-mode now, I honestly don't really remember any details (smiles bitterly).

----You're that engrossed in the creative work, aren't you? Incidentally, since when are you in the Studio?

~~Since yesterday.

----Eh. The recording was just 3 days after the Tour ended! Still, it's amazing that you can't remember the Tour because of having been working here since yesterday.

~~That's because, even though it was just a day, I had confined myself to the Studio throughout, and was set upon slowly and steadily recording the guitar. It isn't very nice, but the mode just got switched over.

----The one you're recording right now, is it the Single for December?

~~Right, it's still hot and we're already making things for the winter.

----I see. Well, we'll talk about that another day, and for now, please tell us about the Single, "Red", coming out in September. What was your impression of the title-song, "Red", when Ruki first presented it to you?

~~The song before this, "Shiver", was the kind of song which abruptly started at top-speed, went bam! and it continued that way throughout. "Red" too, at the demo-stage, had quite a similar feel to it, but I thought how I wanted to add a bit more expression to it this time round. The melody was basically quite good, so in order to make it look even better, I felt it would be absolutely great to add some modulations and variety to it.

----That perception hit right on target. While retaining the radical atmosphere set out by "Shiver", you were at the same time able to present a band-sound with a different approach yet again.

~~Since there is the emotional factor and something very human associated with it, something of myself definitely comes across in the picture. It was nice to bring out a different angle through it, very different from "Shiver".

----From the point of view of guitar ensembles, the large number of tie-ups between Uruha and you is a characteristic feature of "Red".

~~Ah, yes, I suppose. There used to be a lot of that in the past, but in recent years, more than doing tie-ups, we've been arranging things more in unison with each other.

----From there, having revived the tie-up part with "Shiver", there has been a whole lot of development in the area of twin-guitars this time with "Red", isn't it? Despite not being a guitar-kid, I feel that is a very essential part to be listening to.
~~Ah no, you're just being very kind to be putting it that way (laughs). But talking of this, the single for December gets even better, you know? It’s gone to the extent where we’re afraid we’ll get too caught up with having as many tie-ups as we want to or even having too many tie-ups between us (laughs).

----Ah. Even if that is the case, I’m definitely looking forward to it.

~~Well, be it a tie-up or unison, the point to be considered is whether or not it suits the song in its entirety. I’m quite certain that criterion is not going to change even henceforth.

----Well then, we would also like to hear something about the compositions for the coupling songs. I felt something akin to nostalgia for a moment, when I first heard about “Vermin”. Somewhere, it makes one think of the GazettE’s past. Is that merely my imagination?

~~Wonder what it is? Stating it this way, I don’t suppose it is something done consciously.

----From your perspective, what is the distinctive characteristic of this song?

~~I suppose it’s a song which will be quite lively at the Lives.

----I understand. The moment I heard this song, I could almost see the atmosphere of the Live play out in my head (laughs).

~~All of us also wanted a song which could quickly be used at Lives. One way or the other, we wanted a song which would be easy-to-understand and would quickly blend with the mood everybody would be in.

----Songs which one can enjoy abandoning all reason, are, in reality, the ones which very easily blend in with the mood and the flow, aren’t they?

~~If it’s not that type of a song, wouldn’t it take a lot of time to build it up for a Live? Of course, there is also the method of developing a song in the course of a one-man Tour, but this time, even as we did that, there was this thing all along, of having Tokyo Dome up ahead, you know (laughs). With that aim, we added a song which had a sense of immediacy to it.

----Also, in the Single this time, there is also “AN UNBEARABLE FACT”, made by you, in the end. What was the concept from which this song was built?

~~In a nutshell, it’s about the ambience. I made it thinking how great it would be if such a scenario could gradually be brought forth during a Live. After all, “Naraku” ended up going into much heavier territory than what I had earlier thought for it, you know (smiles bitterly). I thought it could go in a more vigorous direction, what with the Live, so this time round, I thought, ‘How about this?’.

----As a member, there must have been a sense of expectation from the people, were you conscious of that ?

~~Ah no, not that much for me. Originally, there was more of a macho kind of feeling than a complete picture, and then, with Ruki’s vocals added to it, it sort of, got spiced up. That was probably what was expected anyway.

----Further, the guitar solo in this song is interesting in its originality.

~~Is that so? There was no particular aim I had in mind for it, so one way or the other, that was just something I played along with some inspiration.

----One could feel your ingenuity in the way you attacked with a classical sounding phrase, and then, unexpectedly, brought forth a taste of the avant garde towards the end.

~~Even if you say that, personally, I’m incapable of doing something which is so terribly difficult. The tapping in the final half is just an idea of some sort.

----You’re just being modest.

~~The point is, the song too is just a coupling by itself. Just having a bit of fun, well that’s nice you know.

----Aoi. Flattery aside, this song, “AN UNBEARABLE FACT”, did get completed with a must-listen quality to it, didn’t it? Why then, such ‘desperate’ pickiness over every tiny little detail??

~~Ah no, I’m just trying to cover up my own insecurities here, somehow (smiles bitterly).

----Wha—t. Is that indeed the case (laughs). Everything’s all right, please have more confidence in yourself!

~~But look, one has to consider the flow of “SHIVER” and “Red” here, you see. Compared to these title songs here, isn’t this probably the core? That’s because as a song, I think it’s one which is very tough to get the hang of—

----That’s true, this song doesn’t have a pop or a catchy feel to it. But, doesn’t it have the depth of flavor like dried, shredded squid? I suppose that is where the value of the very existence of this song lies.

~~Seriously? I thought it was much better suited to be played by a band with more of a worldview, than be played by us (laughs).

----There, you’re thinking too much (laughs).

~~Am I? I guess it’s just to do with age. These days, somehow, I’ve become strangely prone to worrying.

----Let’s change the mood here. Henceforth, let’s enjoy the process of having these songs grow and develop at the Lives hereafter.

~~That’s right. These being long awaited songs, and also to ensure that these don’t get snuffed out at the one-man Tour, I want to work hard towards it with everybody at the Lives hereafter. Even with these 3 songs, one can create an absolutely cool atmosphere, through attentive work with the way to have them heard and the way to have them viewed.

----“NAMELESS~ -02-“ is a Tour which is also linked with Dome, to be here before long. I’ll be eagerly anticipating it.

~~“NAMELESS~ 01”, basically, was vigorous and enjoyable, and it consistently stayed that way at the Lives too, I think. It was fine if it went that way, but from now onwards, I want to have even the main part of the Lives conclude with a clean snap. I’ll work towards a Tour where day after day, I’ll make a precise rise up the ladder, step after step.

I heard about an interview, where they talk about Apartment (the Korean horror film in which the scenes were used in their video for Chizuru. I think Chizuru was used in the movie too...). Does anyone know it?

This is what Ruki thinks when working in photoshoots for magazines, also may implied to making songs and PVs.

credits to kiniro-ageha.livejournal.com
“…we are the Gazette all including this kind of look. And when the orientation of the magazines changes, we are also told that we should rather not wear make-up, but we say that this right here, including all of it is what the GazettE is. I always intend to do everything by possessing this kind of pride. The music, the lyrics, the GazettE’s logo, the CD jacket designs, the outfits, everything. Therefore we do of course check the pictures taken for the magazine, everything until the color proof of it. I think in a way, I am a pretty annoying, noisy guy in that sense, as I have to check everything that far. It also includes the images of the songs, the perspective towards things. Also, when I am saying I would like to do (the shooting) in black and white and I am told that “it would be a waste to not do it in full color” or that “the magazine isn’t selling if it’s not in color”, I feel really disappointed by such things. Because this is of course part of the band concept and I think that all of that makes the GazettE. I really don’t like creating things that are unfitting for us. We do not intend to get rid of our make-up just because someone tells us it needs to be done to fit in. That includes the costumes as well. Because that’s something that can’t be changed that easily according to the situation. It’s not meant to be some kind of narrow-mindedness, but when someone asks me to take off the sun glasses and they are part of the outfit then there is no reason to take them off. And it’s like “Huh? There are other artists that are wearing sun glasses but because this is Visual-kei, it’s no good?” There has been this kind of discrimination”

Geez Ruki bought weapons and stuff, he loves blood and gore (but I knew that before the interview) And he said that if he wasn't a musician he would be a junkie, I think he would actually be a serial killer... Can anyone deny this? Damn it's like Ruki was made specifically for me~
