I'm an RPG addict. To me, playing one is like reading a book, except you actually control the characters driving the story and end up sharing a real, vicarious connection. This particular RPG is the only 10/10 I’ve ever experienced — a masterpiece, by no hyperbole to the word:

A strikingly realistic alternate world with an ineffable feel... each setting lush, vast, and threateningly beautiful to anyone with half an imagination. If you'll let it, the atmosphere completely sucks you in. With music so affecting, so spine-tingling, so synchronized with the world around it, even now it throws me back to the game's very scene, memories flashing right before my eyes. Can you say pure bliss?

Despite Japanese origins, no stiff transliterations dare haunt here: God-tier translators flawlessly flesh out each character's emotional structure while seasoned backstories bloom living, breathing personas. But the villains stay delphic by choice... oh Sephiroth and Jenova, you creeptastic crazies! Shouldering even more burdens, this adventure harbors my favorite plot twist of any work. Because by that point, you're so engrossed in the plot that it almost forces you to take it vicariously, something that you just can't achieve outside a game. It challenges your sense of self (and no, I'm not merely referring to Aerith's notorious event.)

It really is that gentle, but deft touch of humanity in this game. The way you can literally sense a developer wiping the sweat off his brow after putting his all into a work, not simply answering to deadlines or overshadowing mechanics with shallow cosmetics. That said, they paint just enough for an imagination to illuminate the rest.

Yes, I refer to this piece of spectacular insanity...

Voice acting for anime is done prefab. That is, voice actors first record their lines to some stock sketches before scenes are fully animated. In other words, music and animation are constructed around pre-recorded dialogue.

To exemplify the advantages of this production method, take the original and dubbed versions of a scene from Death Note:

Note how the original voice’s timing seems to be in such perfect harmony with the background music and visual frame changes. On the other hand, the dub’s postfabricated voice somewhat washes over the music and frame changes, never seeming to bother really timing and intertwining itself with the other parts of the scene. The original's more seamless overall presentation is simply a result of establishing animation and music ON TOP OF voice. The other way around, as dubs are always done, loses that inherent advantage.

And the whole love letter thing is so dumb. This isn't the 1930's. He has her cellphone number so he could be trying to talk to her more frequently and find excuses to hang out with her, like he did with the second hand bookstores, then eventually find a way to confess to her. Love letters are outdated as fuck and are completely impractical, especially when they're sent in anonymously.
