Well, personally I haven't watched it... yet. I'm planning to once I'm done with BTOOOM!, but my friend who already watched it told me that the first 12 episodes are really good and then after that it's not quite as good. Overall he liked it, though.

The first fourteen episodes, which encompass the first arc are brilliant. Once the story enters the second arc, the series loses its charm, and experienced viewers only continue to watch until the series reaches a conclusion in honour of the first season. I recommend for you to watch it, because you'd be missing out, as the journey of the first arc is very thrilling.

I used to be a SUPER Sword Art Online fanboy, but that was when I watched <10 anime and now I'm not as big as a fanboy as before. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Sword Art Online, but after finishing 24 episodes I started to understand people when they say the storyline is rather shitty and there are many plot holes. Regardless, I still love SAO (it was one of my favourite anime of this season), but not as much as before because I'm more experienced with anime and I'm more analytical with plots now.

These are the problems with SAO for me (SPOILER)

Read my review - If you REALLY want to watch it, I suggest to drop it at episode 14.

I actually agree with this if you decide you don't like the second arc, which begins at episode 15.

It's only one season with two cours. The actual SAO story and the ALO story combined into one season.

Just this once, I'll fulfill whatever your wish is.

The first half was not so good but the second half is just plain bad.

The biggest problem was the pacing that was incredibly off, not to mention the pseudo harem and fanservice trying to cater fanboys

It is really up to you.

Just watch it, and judge the anime for yourself.

If halfway through you feel its unpleasant, you can always drop it.

Most of the haters are either bandwagon-hoppin' sheepfucks or people who read the light novel and are disappointed at how the anime turned out.

Some of the haters, of course, are like not_biased ^ over here, who absolutely adore action scenes and can't stand the romance/harem/slight fanservice of the show. These people are what we call 'immature'.

EDIT:

1. There was a password.
2. Yes, that was the intention of the author.
3. That's a 'harem'.

I agree with this. Asking too many questions could ruin your viewing experience.

I totally agree. They should of stopped at SAO, not go on to a whole different storyline. IMO they should have made a season 2 for ALO(the other game) to not throw anyone off, but then again it's just my thoughts.:)

I tend to be kind of sensitive towards gender role portrayal and sexism in anime.

Needless to say, I dropped it when Asuna said she was at level 100 cooking level.

Also the characters were very, very stereotypical; Kirito seemed a conglomeration of every Male anime archetype that I hate, and Asuna was the same for female archetypes.

And I actually went into it with a positive attitude, thinking it had potential...

We all did, we all did. It also had potential, too bad it was destroyed by the author imagining himself as the magnet chick OP MC and getting all the girls of the game. (nvm that logic fails here)

just watch it and form your own opinions. i've physically seen members of this forum say it was bad without it being on their lists. along with a fanbase of an overrated series comes just as many people that hate the series solely because of that fanbase-- because they know of shows that are 'objectively better' and don't understand why they aren't being circle jerked over yet something like SAO is. of course there are many that will watch and genuinely dislike it just as any other series.

i can't personally give an opinion, but why would you want individual opinions in the first place - especially in this community?
