In my opinion, the 1st one was better and had a better music, but in 2nd stage we can see Takumi getting more interested in cars, although I wish it were longer :(

It was steadily getting better. I'm currently watching the Fourth Stage, enjoying it a lot.

The first stage had alot more battles, and was a little bit lighter in atmosphere. But him getting more interested in cars is a good change.

1st stage very clearly showcases Takumi's natural street racing talent and introduces all the main players in Gunma.

2nd stage highlights his weaknesses, primarily his naivety towards cars itself, and his growth throughout is much more evident than in the previous season.

I remember watching a few episodes here and there of the 1st season in the early 2000s and just recently got my hands on most of the entire "Initial D" series on DVDs recently off a random collector trying to get rid of their DVD collections. So I just started to binge everything I own now. Saying this, it's the 1st time I have watched any of the 2nd Stage ever.

So when did Ryousuke Takahashi suddenly turn into an orangish brown haired 80s Prep? The guy even ties his sweaters around his neck like a cape. I feel like guys that did this type of thing even back in the 80s would also tie their socks around their ankles. lol I mean didn't this Anime come out in the late 90s? I don't remember anyone even dressing this way even close to the late 90s. That would be like someone going around wearing a plaid shirt, 80s Jams, with doc martens boots on. The way the guy dressed in the 2nd season completely clashes with the time period this Anime is suppose to take place in.

Either way the 1st Stage was far more entertaining to watch than the 2nd stage. I really wish I could get my hands on the 1st season of this series on Japanese Laserdisc. I bet that would be the best way to really enjoy this Anime franchise. Maybe if I can find a decent copy of the 1st stage one day being sold on ebay where I am not spending almost 200USDs for it, I might try to snag it.
