Characters got way more interesting this episode. definitely have a reason to root for the two protagonists and the enemies are super interesting

so 4 diary users at the same time. was pretty interesting. I dont trust the policeman though, and i certainly dont like the happy end thing lol like it has to mean something else or will get changed.

To watch through this story, is like to walk through Uryuu Minene's field of mines. How painful it is to witness interesting ideas have their values obliterated by info-dumping. There is no build up, no foreshadowing, nothing. The introduction to different types of future diaries was revealed simply through outright speech.

This extends as well to characterization, where Sakae Esuno vehemently demonstrates has no idea how to use actions beyond dialogue and thoughts. Even then, they appear shallow and one dimensional. You can describe each of the characters in one or two words and not miss any nuance whatsoever. Yuuno is obessive, Yuuki is lonesome, Uryuu is misanthropic, and Fourth is a justice freak. To add the cherry on top, there appears no rhyme or reason to why they are the way they are. They just are.

Scenes of terror and sadness, such as when Yuuki breaks down due to regret are incredibly ineffective because of this. Instead of suffering with the characters, you suffer because of them; the fact you have to hear their sob stories. Furthermore, they aren't even emotionally consistent. One moment Yuuki is afraid of death, the next moment he's ready to spring into action. How hard it is to believe in his development. How annoyingly easy it makes his struggle feel.

What especially irked me was the scene where Fourth turns his gun toward Yuuki. The entire tone of the scene is destroyed by the awkward inclusion of a comedic representation of Yuuki's faith in him. What should naturally be an impactful action was transformed into a joke. It was as if Esuno knew that his story as whole was laughable.

What a mess. A case study into the importance of 'show don't tell'.

Holy shit, it got crazy really fast lol, I know they already killed a man in the first episode, but probably at least half the kids at that school died this time, I was kinda thinking the diary battles would be more low key starting out but nope, buncha dead kids on episode 2 lol. I love it tho, I really enjoyed the chaos of Yuno and Yukiteru running through an exploding school, you know they probably just needed to stop and not move because once a bomb is detonated then there’s no longer a bomb in that spot, but I guess they did need to eventually confront Minene so it probably wouldn’t have worked for too long.

And speaking of Minene, damn what a batshit insane woman, I think it is odd that she managed to plant that many bombs in a school unnoticed, but she made for such a good villain that I don’t mind that plot hole lol, and I wasn’t expecting her to not only be that glasses babe we saw during episode 1 but also the eyepatch girl from the OP, I mean she lost an eye in this one, that’s gotta be her right lol, but I’m glad she was dealt with for now, I thought she was probably gonna be defeated in this same episode since she’s the second bad guy in the whole show but her escape means she’ll be relevant again, and that’s good because she is interesting. One good thing came of all this tho, and that’s that we now have a trifecta alliance with the addition of this cop guy, not sure how long it’ll stay that way but it’s good for now, also Yuno proved herself as a ride or die after this one, yandere or not, she’s a keeper lol.

And there’s the ED visuals, I like them a lot but I’m wondering if everyone turning to static there spoils who dies or not, really cool tho, maybe besides the kid’s panties at that one part lol, oh Japan you rascal.
