I understood the first two deaths as a lack of knowledge and favoritism, but can someone explain the last death and the ending? I didn't understand what happened ngl. Did the MC have to kill her as a job or something that was assigned to beat the game? Was it a condition that I didn't get the ending?

"Spoiler"
At the last exit it showed three symbols above the door showing a human figure with crosses on them, only two were lit,so I think 3 deaths had to occur before the door would open, either that or only 3 people could pass and the door wouldn't open unless there was only three left.
To be honest,I thought this show was weird to say the least, but I'm not sure if i want to keep watching it anyway.
Anyways,I could be totally wrong about this,so just take this as my own take on the ending.

To open the exit there was a condition that only a maximum of 3 people could get out (the signs above the door). She basically only killed her so that the condition would be fulfilled.

I’ve read the LN and it does describe this scene a lot more.

As others said, there are signs at the top signalling 3 people, therefore only 3 people could actually leave. Yuki kills the person closest to her which is Kinko.

In the LN though, Kinko still has one leg, and Yuki just pushes her to the ground and snaps her neck.

In the anime, Kinko has no legs and Yuki drops her and holds the end of the crutch to her head and off-screen her, so it’s a lot harder to understand in the anime, especially as they off screen her death and only showed the 3 people sign once. The anime does this scene faster than the LN does.

It was the symbols showing three people needed to be dead, with only two being lit. That's why the pink-haired girl was freaking out.

@Yuki_Niji in the LN did explain why she specifically killed her or it was just the spur of the moment

@RealityChanges It’s very similar to the anime in terms of that. Yuki killed her because she was simply the closest to Yuki, so a spur of the moment thing. If someone else was closer, Yuki would of killed them instead. I have only read currently up to where the first episode ended so idk if it changes later on.

The anime does have some difference here and there and cut content, but it’s a very VERY good adaption so far, just some parts like this scene and the whole Preservation Treatment info dump scene being cut are my only grips so far. I would of preferred if Yuki just snapped her neck. Feels more personal and yet also tranquil as it’s a quick painless death.

Long story short, only three can leave this game alive, and Kinko is the most efficient solution to the ongoing problem.
That, and (my take) she's probably the only one that wouldn't resist much.

At the end, there were three signs indicating that this was the maximum number of people needed for survival. The song that plays at the end is the same as in the film The Man Who Knew Too Much, and the plot shows a couple fleeing death after discovering secret information until they need to save their own son. Considering that the song choice wasn't random, it seems the directors were already hinting that the main character already knew three people would have to die; she's participated in 27 games and mentions that she only took her friend's life because she offered less resistance.

Thanks for this post I also didn't understand. Having a requirement that 3 have to die or only 3 can pass (basically the same thing?) seems kind of dumb because it makes trying to have everyone survive a moot point. Honestly just make it hard to survive but at least give an opportunity for 100% clear even if remote chance unlikely to ever happen imho....

Am I misinterpreting it? It shows 3 bodies with X's over them. Meaning 3 dead people. 2 were illuminated, and 2 were dead at that point. The 3rd kill illuminated the 3rd symbol. The way I'm seeing it, it wasn't 3 survivors--it meant 3 people had to die.

It could be that it doesn't always require a certain number of deaths. It seems like it's different every time, since Yuki didn't already know every obstacle that they'd encounter. I figure Yuki was trying to keep everyone alive in case they could all survive and didn't know 3 would need to die this time around until they got to the signs.

@Matheusmiranda96 yep also you can notice that Yuki whispers to that pink haired girl onto something before saving kinko and going to the last game that implicates that she knows the true nature of the game.
