Did Season 4 completely drop the ball for anyone else who loved the first three? (minor spoilers)

Honestly, unlike a lot of the anime community, I actually loved the first three seasons of this show, but season 4 just feels off. All the hype and excitement from the earlier seasons is gone, and when manga readers said Mami ruins the series, I didn’t think it’d be this bad, but yeah, they were right. EP3 is probably the only one I actually enjoyed this season. Plus, Mini and Sumi were basically missing the whole time, aside from maybe Mini showing up in the first episode (idk if she does, I forgot). I get they probably wouldn’t have had big roles, but some screen time would’ve been nice. And the vacation is being dragged on forever, like 8 out of 12 episodes at the resort? It felt super slow and stretched out, and overall, this season was more cringe.

For those who still enjoy the show, do you guys feel like season 4 has been a big letdown as well, or is it just me?

Yeah the pacing was definitely much slower. I’d imagine it’d feel even slower for non-manga readers. Much more mellow/beach episode vibe. Also noticed a bit of production drop in the last two episodes 🫣.

I don’t really expect a lot out of this show so it didn’t feel like a big letdown, but yeah this season is more mellow/contained than the previous ones.

It was meant to be 24 episodes, in the first teaser we saw scenes that are further in the story, but they decides to split it and call the next part season 5 and kinda killed the momentum of s4.

I also felt like S4 was a let down compared to the previous season. 1-3 felt like it was progressing the story and characters were developing at some sort of pace. There were even emotional moments that it built up and felt satisfying by the end. But then S4 dragged out the inevitable conclusion for dramatic effect in the back half just to leave it on a cliffhanger. And that just made the whole season just a setup for S5. And it felt like a ton of character regression just for the fact they would then make horrible decisions to set up for S5. Chizuru also caused the whole situation and still had time to say she was charging Kazuya which also bugged me. In the end I just feel bad for his family because everyone else there is either unnecessarily oblivious or making the worst possible decisions.

Yes oh my god I hated this season and loved the first 3. The pacing was just… horrible. I never really finished this season cause I lost hope. I’m a little bias cause Sumi is my favorite character an the most they could give her was the outro???? She got 3 seconds of screentime besides that??? This truly marks the point where rent a girlfriend falls off completely. Justice for Sumi

I think its more of the same. Which is sad because I'd have hoped that this would go somewhere (and I do know because of manga that this isn't moving along anytime soon).

They’ve killed any sense of progression and given the manga is still ongoing and there’s still like minimum 3 or 4 seasons left I don’t think it’s going to get better anytime soon. It’s definitely fallen off in a big way quality wise, which is a shame as the first three seasons, while certainly not perfect, were fun and felt like they were going somewhere. This was never going to be peak, but it could have been a 7 or even an 8 out of 10 with reasonable pacing.

I watched the other 3 seasons last year and I liked it then I watched season 4 and i had to force myself to watch it surely the other 3 seasons weren't like this if not I must just be blinded by some form of nostalgia

Yeah I thought the same. I really liked the third season for example and defended it to anyone who listened but this season truly wasn’t it… Slowed down considerably, there was little to no character development and the story went nowhere. Pretty sad actually, but it can only go upwards from here, right ?…

dude, this shit show is my guilty pleasure but damn this season was just bad with the stalling and meaningless drama. it's like the universe was against Kazuya confessing.
