What are y’all’s opinions on Anime becoming more mainstream in the past few years?

it was mainstream yesterday. and would probably be mainstream tomorrow.

this gets discussed so many times. we're already in an english-based database site whose very mission is to archive every known anime whether its shit or not. now the website is collaborating with japanese companies. lets see the 2026 "is anime becoming mainstream" discussion

I just have a love/hate of the tiktok era. you can get spoiled, you can find theatrical clips (basically piracy), and the shittiest 8 year old takes approved by other 8 year olds with unrestricted access to the internet. but the memes are funny

I think mostly it's a good thing but at the same time the already existing fanbase should gatekeep a little bit

My honest opinion is that anime as a whole has not become mainstream (at least where I am) in the last few years. It's just a handful of particular shows that did.

It makes me feel more comfortable wearing anime merch and watching anime in public.
