Now, we're doomed.

Sad News: One Punch Man Season 3’s new director, Shimpei Nagai, has given fans a brutally honest update about the upcoming season, asking viewers to lower their expectations. 🥹

In a X (formerly Twitter) post, Nagai admitted:

“It probably won’t live up to Season 1, but the series (season 3) is filled with the creators’ passion and ingenuity. Please at least accept that… I want to support J.C. Staff, which works to improve labor conditions and nurtures its employees.”

He went on to explain his determination to carry the weight of such a beloved series despite the pressure, noting that while big studios with massive funding attract most of the top talent, he wants to stand by J.C. Staff, a studio focused on improving work conditions and nurturing its employees.

Well ofc it won't live up to Season 1. Season 1 was a one time project with an insane lineup of highly reputable Animators and no, just getting Madhouse won't automatically give u the same quality. A huge portion of the staff comprised of freelancers. It's common knowledge it won't be like Season 1.

People need to move on from their first impression of One Punch Man. Is not quality, pacing, directing, studio,... those are just terms they say to cope with it. Is just the first impression.

And people need to grow up from the "is good because this character is powerful". Like, come on, man, is a parody series, almost a gags series.

People hooked on season 1 need to relax. I watched season 1 multiple times and just about to finish rewatching s2 and s2 was better overall. I thought it was better the first watch as well just cause more characters are introduced and Garou. The fights are well done. Just be excited for s3👍

Season 1 was "The Best" because Fukushi went "Avengers... Assemble" with star animators. Unfortunately, JC staff does not have someone like him with immense influence in the industry. But nonetheless, we know we have ace animators like Kenichiro Aoki working on it, who can carry big fights like an absolute chad.

Call it a publicity stunt to gain sympathy... But I think this is probably the best way someone can deal and de-escalate the situation created by toxic fans. He's not making false promises and yet reassuring everyone. He's trying to be open about a lot of things and for once People have an idea about whats happening behind the scenes. Probably the best PR move, which none of the studios would have pulled off including JC staff. Day by day, my repect to this guy increases.

I also tried to look for that comment on X. But couldnt find it. The facebook post doesnt cite the source of their post (which is the comment in X)

the new director already said he is gonna mix more 3d and 2d to speed up production so the quality will be mid at best since a lot of fans hates any 3dcg anyway

and its funny that he says jc staff wants to improve working conditions when they do 10-20 anime per year the highest of any big studio in the anime industry more higher than the meme mappa studio being overloaded and overwork too

Imo if it doesn’t even get near the quality of OPM S1, then don’t animate it. I’m not settling for mediocrity no matter the excuses. I can just read the manga.

☝️ This. I support this message.

If anything the only real flaw of S2 is that there is very little of the main character. I am a firm believer that all the monothematic complainers about aNiMaTiOn that don't mention that flaw, are shallow people that only watch for punches and explosions refusing to accept that the series is actually a comedy.

These post are so annoying. Seems like 2 years of every other OPM post on here saying this same exact thing. Give it a break and give the studio a chance.

I didn't understand the post, it's obvious to anyone who understands anime production and animation that season 3 will be shit just like season 2, it's bizarre to see that there are people in the comments who think season 2 is better than season 1 lol they must be blind or have a cognitive deficiency.

That's clearly cuz of the team? Madhouse consists of various teams and we are talking about the OPM Season 1 situation a huge chunk of which involved freelancers. If there is Frieren, then there's also Overlord Season 3. Animation depends on time and talent, not a building. And I'm not saying anything against Madhouse. It's one of my fav studios.

@Subxxxx1 You indirectly further proving my point. Even if the s2 and s3 didn't have the same teams as s1 of opm, madhouse studio's animation for these two season would have been light years better because:
1. JC animates 20 anime each year
2. Not all the animators & staff have the same skill. I mean .... look at Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. They animated it worse than some low budget eroge on Steam for God's sake.

The main point was about the season being automatically on par with Season 1 if Madhouse just gets it and not which would be better. If an anime is given enough time, it will give good results. Season 1 took 2 years whereas Season 2 was forced to be completed in 6 months. J.C. Staff has Aoki who is considered one of the best Animators in the industry. He had roughly over 11 whole minutes of animation for Season 2. Most of the shots that at best did look decent enough were done by him and it's praise worthy for what be pulled off in such a small amount of time tbh. J.C. staff also has some really good works under their portfolio like Railgun. Let's just see what Season 3 brings us and if it fumbles, we can only blame the greedy production committee, especially Bandai Namco.....

P.S. Didn't really mean to write a whole paragraph lol !Σ(×_×;)!

@Subxxxx1 First of all, Aoki isn't one of the best animators in the world; he's just a good one, not even comparable to the animators Fukushi uses.
And conversely, we should blame J.C. Staff because they shouldn't have agreed to make an Opm sequel while simultaneously making 20 anime

@Subxxxx1 I don't know where you got the information, but as far as I know, OPM S1 was completed in just 1 year, and S2 has been worked on by JC staff since 2017.
