The final chapter of Vinland Saga, Chapter 220, was released today. Thank you very much for reading it over such a long time.
Thorfinn’s long adventure comes to a close with this. I wanted to depict the process of a child growing into an adult through various experiences. I wonder if I managed to portray it well.

Growing up, in a nutshell, I think means becoming an adult, but then the question arises: what is an adult?
I’ve been thinking about this for 20 years while drawing manga, and my conclusion is, “a kind person”… maybe, I think.
Probably, that’s right. The goal of growing up is to become “a kind person.”

I was drawing the final chapter while thinking, I hope we’ve become kinder than the people from a thousand years ago.

In any case, a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I’m glad it’s over. After all, it’s been 20 years—during that time, I could’ve gotten sick or been in an accident and been unable to draw, right? Long serializations are quite a thrill.

"It'll take 20 volumes, about 10 years... gotta watch out for accidents and cancellations in the meantime," I thought 20 years ago. Of course, my plans never go as planned!
Thank you all so much for sticking with this long story.

The Japanese edition of the book is scheduled for release in September. I'm currently working on the cover. Please wait just a little longer. Once the book work is done... a break? A break! Woo, summer vacation!
What should I do? I'll go fishing. And play The Legend of Zelda. I'll study English too.
