For me Maomao and Frieren's persona is kinda similar, since both are introvert, rational, calm, intellectual and quiet.
These two were one of the missing pieces for the industry. (Because it is not common for female characters to be introvert and also not being shy. If they are introvert they have to be shy or kuudere. If they are intellectual they have to be serious all the time and know-it-all.)
Kei is more extroverted compared to them, and also deeply engaged with her emotions contrast to them.
She is a girl who likes romance movies even it is not mentioned in the story, but on her character profile. She doesn't even look like to care about romance in her daily life. It is just a simple taste of her, not her whole personality. That is why she is also a missing piece for the industry. Most terrible written shounen female characters' personality nothing more than loving a man and dedicating their life to them(that problem kinda solved in recent years though). Kei is a proof that both can be possible. Loving romance but doesn't care about it in daily life and focusing your dream and job first.
Still, there would probably have been an arc about this, also focusing on the relationship between her father and mother. Her memories with her parents and probable romance between them could have awaken by a specific role. When I think about this, I remember how much of a loss the anime/manga industry has suffered. Anyway. She is a weirdo can be sensitive and naive but also responsible, at the same time she has that typical ambitious, friendly, and energetic shounen mc energy. Her presence on the anime industry could have brought much more well-written fmcs. There could have been a who is the best girl compitition for Kei, Maomao and Frieren among the anime fandoms. My vote would be for Kei for sure, even though her journey couldn't reach an end.
If I compare to her shoujo's one of the most popular mc, Yona, Yonagi would beat her thanks to shounen popularity. Kei's journey didn't reach an end, so when I think the possibilities of her character development, past memories, and facing with her father...She becomes a better character on my mind.
Also I saw Seto Asami on your list, I always thought that she would be a good choice for Kei.
