despite its low ratings after watching the third episode and taking all the general aspects of the anime, id say this series is actually better than the original. its more refined in the sense that its straight and to the point, almost no fat or slow points, it knows what it isn't and doesn't pretend to be something its not like falling too much on the franchise's novelty, and keeps to its own strengths. simply just a better product overall, but still... just a tad bit lackluster or missing that emotional connection(maybe its going by too fast) if were comparing it to more popular IPs. that's why i feel it deserves a 7 but no higher.

A great show, the transitions between the chibi-ish ‘real world’ art, a bit like Hanako Kun, and the tall handsome gods etc in the other dimension are awesome. It’s got a good background story and stands up well even for new viewers.

Honestly it's a bit of a delusional take. Cheap animation, no returning characters from the saga and a small cast... both things against both Kawamori's habits with both Aquarion and Macross. His shows always relied on a large cast and cool animation. So while the writing is fine, the plot is stilted and the characters awkward with each other.

@0rphanSlayer You should check out the others, Aquarion is a great series. MOE being 12 eps sounds like a great tasting dish of what Aquarion is all about.

@Asterlet Kawamori wanted a smaller scale Delta, so idk about you, I would not claim to know the creator that well to say something that wrong. A 12 ep small scale Aquarion sounds perfectly fine, idk what stilted plot youre watching, not the expectation of returning charcters. Did Logos have returning characters.

@Asterlet No returning characters? that hasn't been a thing since evolve but if you haven't figure out who Kamisama really is by now, I suspect you have never watched a Aquarion anime.

After finishing the series id like to modify my statement. No doubt this series overall was more polished than the original and improvements were made. However taking the second half of the series into consideration on the overreaching and complete plot reveal, in a one for one comparison of the original this series writing style isn't that much of a divergence and share many or the subjective flaws i consider of "messy and unfinished writing". Being "all over the place" is rather a signature part of all Aquarion series(all of them share this trait) and may add to(novelty) or detract from(distaste) the opinions of viewers of the series.

So in terms of my final thoughts breaking down this series as a whole, if we were to compare the two series on a episode by episode basis i would say each miniature sub plot building to the finally was better written and executed. this is a much better improvement. As for the series as a whole the art style and CGI comparison is slightly better but with the advancement in digital technology no achievements can be contributed to an higher level of skill, just differences in era and funding. As for overall story, world building, and plot, the newer series' finale feels messy and rushed, but taking its episode count into consideration to the original no real comparison can be made with the difference of timelines of every series the production teams have to work with.

All in all, some improvements have been made, however for a work that is building off of a previous franchise, improvements are expected, no doubt this production team has showcased their talent and hard work to both meet and exceed(even if minimally) the franchise's standards and has earned their place as an equal to their cohorts. but this is all they've achieved to, just being equals overall.

It was worst Aquarion entry ever. I would rather watch cgi prequel story than cartoony-present time convoluted borefest.
