Do you maintain a local file collection?
What music player do you use?
Perhaps you use an mp3 player like the Sony Walkman nw-a306 or iPod classic.
Maybe you are a filthy streamer.
This thread is for discussing the ways in which you enjoy listening to music.

For me I use Winamp on my windows xp machine, files encoded to lame mp3 v0 vbr.
Sometimes I listen to music through KODI in which case Im using the highest quality file available.
Rarely do I listen to my cds directly anymore.

Away from home mostly Apple music. At home, vinyl, cd (using a PS3), also apple music and local files from a flash drive connected to my TV.

I'm listening to music while I'm driving most of the time. Usually I'm using Spotify, but sometimes I'm going for songs or mix lists I've donloaded on my phone, because Spotify doesn't have them.

When I'm at home, I'm using YouTube to listen to a few songs on my laptop after watching anime.

Primarily on Spotify or YouTube, as I get notifications about the latest songs on these platforms. Although I've a music collection on my HDD, I rarely play music from there. I also have a small CD and cassette tape collection for my AIWA boombox, so I use those alternately as well. In the car or away from all other devices, I play music from my phone or via USB. By the way, I even have an MP3 player, but I'm not using it at the moment.

This was the best music listening experience of my life, the XP + Winamp combination. Lately, I've been feeling nostalgic, so I'm thinking about returning to this setup as well.

Local collection. My music player is called Clementine. One of the few players that support moodbars and I don't really want to live without moodbars anymore. It's crazy that such a useful feature isn't to be found in most music players.

Usually through streaming Spotify, Apple, etc. When I'm traveling I use my MP3 player though. I have a decent CD and vinyl collection, but rarely do I ever actually listen to them.

Local file - not anymore, I used to do it back in 2000s and early 2010s when Youtube wasn't a big deal yet and Spotify hasn't existed [or at least not as much as now]
Player - None, back than I used to use windows media player
MP3 - I have one, a Polish little brand perhaps, it might be even older than me.

In nowadays - I use mainly spotify, sometimes youtube. Here's playlists which I listen to:
Spotify [liked playlist, but I have 2nd liked playlist just in case - as a backup and also as a public playlist] - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3tlWv5QdzSquVFpt3mzye6?si=45bacf3f12994be5

@Zettaiken

Spotify has been around since the early 2010s.
I tried it out back when that concept was new and before it there was a website that had a similar concept except you could upload music to their servers which was pretty fucking cool.
Wish I could remember what it was called.

Yes, I have to maintain local file collection cause internet connection gets disrupted while long distance travel. Otherwise, I mostly use youtube and rarely spotify and soundcloud.

- Home = Spotify - PC - have an amplifier + Headphones + App Equalizer APO.

- Out of Home = I use mp3 device - so I don't use my cell phone's battery - Many of the songs I listen to are at 320 kbps , others are at 256 kbps.

@Kloick

320kbps is a waste, you should go with a variable bit rate.

I have local file collection, over the years it has grown quite large its around 830 songs, and its around 15gb

i either use YouTube to mp3 320kbs using ymusic app for niche stuff that i cant find anywhere else and my main source is soulseek, or seeker client on android. Its great its basically peer to peer file hosting for music and you can get studio quality audio files, i have some songs that are only 3 minutes long but 200 megabytes in size because it was uncompressed original flac files.

For playing music vlc media on desktop and musicolet for Android. I actually dont listen to that much music on pc but i do very often on my phone and musicolet is just a perfect player for me and its completely free and also fully add free, there's also poweramp, many people claim that its the best player to ever exist but its not free on playstore

Main takeaway from me is use soulseek, its great i love it you can even find many live recording from different bands on it that arent available on most other services

Um … YouTube audio is 128kbps AAC (or opus), re-encoding it to 320kbps mp3 files is not only pointless but will result in further audio loss.
You should just use yt-dlp and download the actual audio stream

@Shengelia

It just so happens that you can use yt-dlp on android devices!

Here’s a Reddit post on how to get it set up
https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubedl/comments/swdyyz/comment/hxlfqh2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

You’ll have to install a command line app called termux, then from there you download and install yt-dlp.

Switched back to my local collection after a few years with spotify. (21,000 files)

Use foobar2k with my sens, peace (when gaming), amp + DAC, and FLACs because I *totally* can hear the difference. :p
