| Wasn't quite sure what subforum to post this in, please redirect me if this is not the proper place. It's been pointed out that there sadly seems to be some sort of organized effort this summer season from certain groups to review-bomb new anime with LGBT themes (namely Senpai wa Otokonoko and Tasogare Out Focus). The review-bombing is not exclusive to MyAnimeList, they're doing it on those anime's Crunchyroll pages even more so, but it becomes pretty apparent if you look at the score percentages of these anime compared to other new summer anime of similar scores. I know MAL had some sort of method to sort out real reviews from fake ones when the whole Interspecies Reviewers thing happened. Is there some method to stop review bombing? |
| I don't think it's an organized effort, I bet it's the ishinashi guy. He's just a single user with hundreds of accounts who gives anything lgbt related 1 star. The MAL mods have been dealing with him for a while now. |

| As @illashiza12 said, just report that particular review and let the mod/admin handle it @cureem. But I do agree that MAL needs to put more tool to combat review bombing since there are anime fans on MAL that may have a hatred toward some anime or their franchise and take their hatred out toward it by performing a review bomb. We got to be careful, there are people like him out there that can set up like 5+ or more random MAL accounts just so they can not only do review bombing, but also perform spam-like behavior. Now we also have to deal with AI-styled word writing done by trolls too because this has happened on social media, and I worried that 1 troll user that created multiple MAL profiles/accounts can use AI to make 2 same MAL accounts looked like different persons. If you combined that with disguising the IP address for each cloned accounts/profiles, that'll make it harder to tell which users is authentic and which one is not legitimate. That's my biggest concern with today's technologies including AI. |
| @Kimberly112 I contacted MAL support as suggested and they replied saying "The mods are aware of this issue and are responding to the situation, but in the meantime we encourage you to use the report feature to report any content you see that goes against the MAL community guidelines. A member of the moderation team will respond to your report as soon as possible." |
| MAL isn't Crunchyroll. Did anyone check the stats on the two anime when this was pointed out? None of the two anime have any preliminary reviews, but they both have about 100 1-star ratings. It's definitely more than you would expect (compared to other new anime), especially for Twilight out of Focus, but if this some organized group-effort, it's either very small or MAL already got rid of it. |
| Same thing happened on /r/anime last month (for pride month), any discussion about Maria-sama ga Miteru got mass downvoted. Expect nothing less from terminally online, brainbroken people. |
