So based off this article about the festival:

When creating ‘Great Pretender’ they had the idea that it would be like Lupin III.

So Lupin & Fujiko were a criminal duo who were not necessarily lovers but Lupin was infatuated with her,where Lupin would do anything for Fujiko, but at some point Fujiko claimed to have suffered from amnesia. Fujiko also seems similar to Cynthia, she would use her looks to trick people.

im not gonna be surprise if that is the case considering both lupin anime and great pretender are about thieves or con artists
