If we allow it to count as a first episode, then yes.
But really, lengthwise it got to do the 3 episode rule and MORE in single "episode", so its kinda not fair.

Not oshi no ko"s problem BY THIS logic Current aot Episode is also Way to big. And it should be registered as only 1 Episode, but register as 2 and We wait for second part. So that's basically 6 episode not 2.

NO MATTER the runtime first episode is still just prologue. And it's still the first episode

The main story will start in Next episode.

Thank you like I genuinely don't understand why people mention the length when people say it's a great first episode. A first episode is a first episode and this one was great.

I'm not going to pretend like this was the best impactful pilot I have seen, but you shouldn't pretend like the episode you watched wasn't movie length.

now taking length into consideration. I think the pilot for:

the promised neverland, steins;gate, death parade, mars red, made in abyss, attack on titan and to your eternity as a few examples, are about just as good. IF we consider length.

but if we don't, (even though we should), if not the best, it was certainly the most impactful pilot I have ever seen.

Ok first ep its great people keep saying its long but i say its absolutely alright if its a long first episode of a series,infact i like it better because its fleshed out and almost nothing felt empty, and plus its the first episode it doesn't matter how long it is as long as its the FIRST episode to a series be it a new series or a continuation/new season/ part 2 of a season, Aot's latest is doing the same thing an hour episode and what do people keep calling it an episode and so did i. But i do semi consider it a movie in my head, but i like calling it "movie episodes" since ive seen other older series do this. ( i dont intend any ill will nor am i trying to start a debate/fight, it is simply my opinion and i respect everyone elses <3)

it’s a great first episode sure, but it’s more like 3. and a lot of other shows get their hooks in in a lot less time. personally thought i think this was the right decision cuz if i was anime only i wouldn’t have lasted 3 episodes

Tbh i feel like To your Eternitiy had a pretty simlar first episode when you really think of it.

you meet a character, you begin to like this character, and when you realize that they will die its too late.

Oshis first episode feels like an extended version of this, even though its a completely different setting. Due to that i personally would not compare these two because with more runtime and an author who can hold the same level or atleast come close to it its just natural that the longer one will be "better" because the time spend with the characters is longer.

i hope its atleast possible to understand my point even with a bad explanation

I'm going to say no, but not because this episode wasn't good. But because Summertime Render's pilot was one of the best first episodes I've ever watched with the biggest let down of episodes after that that I've ever seen. I tried to stick around but I just couldn't do it.

Oshi is a pretty good contender mostly because I was spoiled before going into it and the way it happened still hit me pretty hard.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, No Game No Life and Made in Abyss, to name a few, all had way better first episodes than this show and will most likely be better shows all around when it ends also. But this first episode was indeed well directed and is surely above average.

The initial episodes of a show are designed to hook the viewers, and they may be of higher quality than the rest of the episodes. I've read about half of the manga so far and the start is definitely it's strongest aspect. I doubt the anime will adapt any further than what I've read unless they rush it.
