How comes not even one of them thought that solving the food problem would be a priority?

When senku arrived at the village he was already thinking about the threat tsukasa empire held and started working on defeating them by making the village into science kingdom.

the condition of the land was probably very fucked up when the astronauts started the village not to mention the area where they start farming is still pretty far away from the main village. Plus the seeds they actually attain to actually start farming were obtained after months of search using the hot air ballon.

it is also mentioned that the draught comes up once in a generation and the last time it came was the worst one which led to the village shrinking down.

You also need the right conditions to cultivate, you can’t just start growing wheat and herding goats on a random island where they aren’t even located. Also like the last response said, Senku had to deal with Tsukasa before even thinking about doing all this. This whole situation is not as easy as you’re making it out to be, and to even mention the possibility of them being “evil”, are you just trolling?

when they get a chance to get a start over, they are trying to bring a new civilization where people are not suffering. Obviously, evils are there in every generation, but fighting to get over it is what matters.

teach a man to fish, he eats fish.
Teach a man to do everything, he does everything.
Everyone already said most of it but they needed to prioritize keeping the future generations alive and not dying to random other stuff, so they made easily understandable stories to hold as much as possible. If you teach them to farm and herd animals, but they all die of smallpox, what was the point? Same with Senku, what does it matter if he teaches them agriculture and Tsukasa empire comes and flattens them. That’s what would have happened eventually if Senku hadn’t stopped the threat when he did.

The astronauts landed on a little island out in the middle of the ocean. 2 of which died at sea trying to get medicine from mainland Japan.
