| When I first heard that 2205 was only greenlit for eight episodes instead of 2 cour worth like the previous series, I was a bit disappointed. After seeing this first batch, I was foolish to worry. One casualty of this is the reduced amount of time the series gets to tell its story but one positive is that it can cut the fat and jump right in. Imagining the main beats of these episodes dragged out makes me glad this was done the way it was. Out of the new cast introduced, the main ones given the most material to work with are Ryusuke Domon and Yabu. I was worried with Domon that they were gonna drag out his beef that he had with Kodai but I'm happy to see they went in a more interesting direction with it. Hopefully that doesn't change in Part 2. As for Yabu, he is a hacker who defected to Garmilas and his journey mostly was setup so I am waiting to reserve judgment until Part 2. The new empire who acts as the antagonist for 2205 has a menacing aesthetic to it which I'm looking forward to see more. Also, helps that they have the Dragon of Dojima himself Kiryu voicing their leader :P Overall, the faster pace seems to be to Yamato's benefit for now after all the nonsensical melodrama that occurred in 2202 and the end point sets you up and begging for Part 2 |
