Rouis is probably the best written character in beastars and best written character I have seen in anime in a while underated in my opinion do you agree?

agreed. But just so you know. The Netflix subs suck. Its "Louis" and "Haru" as opposed to "Rouis" and "Hal".

I have no idea. it has something to do with just the sounds getting mixed up in the translation i think

Exactly.And he deserves it,he's a great character.I think one of the most underrated characters is Haru,but I can see why considering that she has very little screentime after the arc of the first season.
But beyond that I think she suffers a certain unnecessary hate from the community because of her promiscuity and such, but that's just my opinion.

No you are absolutely right! Haru gets a lot of backlash because of that, when I don't think it's really all that fair.

This is a relatively common problem whenever you have Japanese names utilizing the "r" (ラリルレロ) mora. Because they're widely considered intermediate between the English "r" or "l" sounds (but not equivalent to either one), there exists some degree of ambiguity in the way a name containing one of these 5 "r" mora can be Romanized.

I don't know about that. I've always thought he was pretty well-liked, as far as Beastars itself is concerned. The real underrated character here is Gouhin.

The bear is definitely the most underrated, he's a quite complex antagonist. It even took years to MyAnimeList finally add him to the cast list LOL

TLDR:In the official English manga it is Louis and Haru.

I’m assuming it’s a way for western sales to increase as well. Anglicized versions of character names happened a lot in older anime and manga. Similar with Legosi/Legoshi although that’s more of a linguistics and phonetics thing.

Quotes from beastars.fandom.com so take it as you will.

“Before the localization of Beastars to the West, many fan works and translations have translated Legoshi's name as "Legosi". Since then however, it has been officially established via the release of Beastars related media by VIZ Media that the correct spelling of his name is "Legoshi".”

“In Japanese media, Louis is spelled as Rouis. This is most likely to ease pronunciation for native Japanese speakers who have difficulty distinguishing between l/r sounds.”
