I finished this season and dam I really am surprised, I thought Im gonna have a similar experience but dam. I really got invested in this. I never really expected to get similar feelings from SAO
Yes, Alicization is significantly better than rest. Especially first half, where Kirito starts from scratch. But don't get used to that, because it quickly goes downhill once again. And Kirito returns to his bland and boring self.

Hibiki Tachibana from Symphogear is THE worst protagonist in all anime. No hyperbole or exaggeration.

You know, I felt the same way about that too. I just finished it up last month, and I have to say, I was blown away! In fact, it took me like an hour to get out of the daze that my mind was in after the last episode of war of underworld. But it was a good feeling, I was just so amazed.
And I agree with someone else was saying on here, the first half of this was definitely better than the second half.

I thought it got much better when Asuna showed up. They introduced you to a whole cast of new characters, but they didn't give you any time to bond with them. The only one you got to bond with was Eugeo because he was there since the beginning. And Alice was not a good fit for this show.

yeah same is my thinking it got better when Asuna showed up in Stacia form, just I didn't want eugeo to pass away, he is my most favorite anime character 😢
WISHED I COULD ALSO GET TRANSPORTED TO A WORLD FULL OF MAGIC And DUNGEONS, please take me there too if you could ( ◜‿◝ )♡

I loved Eugeo too. It was a shock when he died. SAO doesn't really kill off characters so when he dies I was surprised and sad.
Alicization was great at the beginning. I loved how they finally found a way to re-create the first concept in a good story. The first season was good. Then beginning of second season when Kirito was down it was amazing. It really showed what the show can be when not circling around Kirito. However by the last season everything was gone. Everything they built before was forgotten. The end was tasteless.
In summary, I will use the word y always use for SAO: disappointed

I assume Alicitzation refers to the season with that name on MAL (not the whole arc, including War of the Underworld). Well, that's true. This was the first time for me that I got invested in SAO emotionally. The new premise and setup were amazing and Eugeo's character did a lot to finally balance out Kirito's "overwhelming coolness". Something like an equal partner, right (definitely there wasn't one since Asuna in late Aincrad)?
Eps 19-20 hit me emotionally too, so kudos for that. However, this is still SAO . Meaning: shallow and narrow.
The theme of imagination literally creating the world and through willpower literally reshaping the world - while not quite original, is deep and good. Fits Kazuto's character too. What is it used for? To bloom some flowers, give temporary edge to minor characters in their dramatic moments and Kirito going god-mode in WoU Pt. 2.
Ai being "people" or not? Again, not original, but deep and thoughtful. What is it used for? Bad guys try to abuse it (twicefold) to make war and money. It is well attached to Eugeo and Alice - overcoming the challenge of conventions and axiomatic social behavior to be free and make choices based on ones sense of justice. Sadly, that gets not so much elaborated on either.
Kirito gets another harem - after that it is more or less a relief, that Eugeo got the beginnings of one too, to balance that out.
Social inequalities, differences in sense of justice, the effect of political structures on people, etc. Are these examined? Well, there's a bad guy (girl) who abuses authority like a godess. As a message to Japanese youth on the nature of authority it's not exactly bad either, but again, not too deep.
The side characters are there too and although they get some screentime, they are entirely forgettable.
In the end, SAO once again tries to be much, has the basic idea on how to do it, and then gets stuck in the high school view of the world and falls flat on its face. That being said, the animation, character designs, soundtrack are just great as always, and with the slightly improved story and characters this is not exactly bad. Many - not all - of the problems come from the shows incessant insistence on cutting monologues and perspectives from characters other than Kirito in adapting the LNs too. Still, I wonder if the same premise, characters and production quality didn't produce a 10/10 in the hands of someone like Arakawa (FMA), Yoshiki (LotGH), Isayama (SnK), Shinkai (Kimi no an Wa), or the production team of Psycho-Pass. That's just me though.
I really enjoyed this, and don't regret watching it, it is still as annoying as ever though.
