----------------------------------------
This has to be the longest and saddest story in "Phoenix" so far, I cried at the end. "Nostalgia" also has the most mature themes of all, in my opinion. It tackles concepts like incest and cannibalism, recreating Biblical narratives in another light. Tezuka makes tons of ommages to the Bible, from character and planet names (like Eden, Lot and Cain) and the whole idea of a race evolving from a single woman breeding with her own children, to the tragic fate of this race, facing an end during the reign of a mayor with a symbolic name Sodom.
There're references to other well-known stories, like Urashima Tarou (an adaptation of this tale is one of the first anime in existence, actually), or the Little Prince. "Nostalgia" also uses concepts and characters from previous volumes, including Chihiro robots (which are presented as more human than humans themselves), Goro Makimura and moopies. Makimura was a pretty bad guy before, and he's still an asshole now, but I feel more sympathy for him now, he has kind of a tragic story. Also, there was a even cameo by Black Jack.

A little clichéd (or actually, cheesy) for me yet still dark and touching. That was a good chapter.

Phoenix Volume 6 review

This was such a trip wow. I never expected it to take the turns it did. I also noticed the Biblical names and found it very interesting. It was nice to see the return of Moopies and a Chihiro robot, it's cool to see the timelines and worldbuilding start to connect. It was a very long and tragic tale, and was of the standard Phoenix quality of not disappointing. It was also nice to see the Phoenix be so proactive, I can't believe this was the one story it always recalled.
